There is a limit on my paypal account and am wondering how long they can hold my money...

The length of time depends on the nature of the limitation. If the limitation is to further confirm your identity, you can withdraw once you've completed the necessary steps that are outlined on your account.
There are more severe limitations that may result, as our User Agreement outlines, in holds of up to 180 days. This is due to the length of time a buyer is within their rights to dispute a transaction with their own financial institution. PayPal is obligated to reimburse a financial institution if a buyer is reimbursed for their purchase price by that bank or credit card company.
