Limited Account - Want To Close It Out
A few months ago paypal limited my account and will not let me delete my bank account information nor will they let me close it out. I have decided to leave them alone all together. Why are they holding my information hostage if will not let me make any kind of transactions through them? Why would they need it?

Inappropriate?Hi VS-
If you have questions about an account, please use the Contact Us link on your My Account screen to speak to someone. If your account has not been limited for 180 days, the reason you can't close it might be because the limitation was placed for the potential of buyers disputing transactions. Note that I don't know the details of your actual limitation, I'm just giving an option for why an account might not be allowed to be closed.
Additionally, depending on why your account was limited, PayPal may keep some information on file to prevent another account with the same info from being opened in the future. Again, you can speak to an agent to refer to the actual specifics of what's happening on your account.
Thanks,

Inappropriate? So if I do NOT wish to give PayPal the information they are asking for, I have to wait 180 days (that's 6 months!) to get my money?? (Assuming there are no disputes or charge backs & all items have been delivered).

Inappropriate?Hi John-
Per our User Agreement, that is correct. That is the length of time a buyer is within their rights to dispute a transaction with their financial institutions. As we have to reimburse the financial institution for money they return to the buyer, that's how long we'd have to hold the balance barring the steps requested on the limitation.

Inappropriate?Once the 6 months have passed, how is the money returned back to me? Will I be able to withdraw to the bank on file with my acct at PayPal or is a physical check mailed to me? And how will I know when the limit has been lifted? Will I be notified by email (& have to withdraw it electronically as usual) or will be money be automatically mailed to me by snail mail?

Inappropriate?Hi John-
You'll be notified when the funds are available for withdrawal. The options may depend on the reason for and the severity of the limitation...PayPal may unlimit the account at that time; they may choose to part ways with you, allowing you to withdraw but not allowing future use of the account. You can speak to someone about the specifics of your situation by contacting PayPal securely via the Contact Us link on your My Account screen...you should see phone and email options.
Thanks,
PayPal Jason
