I love PBS Kids Sprout!
I don't let my five year old watch that much TV, but I love it that when I am turning the TV on for him, no matter what time of day I can put "Sprout" on and know that he's going to get sweet (read: not obnoxious) and often educational programming. Thankfully I've managed to stave off "Spongebob" and the like.

Inappropriate?Awesome. Thanks, Amy.
I really like the SuperWhy SuperReaders (there are some fun songs on the site too: http://pbskids.org/superwhy/) and I heart WordGirl and Captain Huggyface (http://youtube.com/watch?v=eLw3ExL18r8)
Also, there is a new podcast from Sesame Street on iTunes--thanks for sharing--
I’m delighted to hear happy parents talking about quality kids programming.
-
Inappropriate?Ooh, thanks for the tips! My son will love "SuperWhy" -- particularly since "why" is one of his favorite words. Very inquisitive one he is. Besides, now that he's in kindergarten he's really getting turned on by reading so the timing is perfect.
I’m now a fan of WordGirl and Captain Huggyface too
-
Inappropriate?Just because I can, I'm embedding WordGirl right here:
I’m wishing these shows were on when I was a kid
-
Inappropriate?Groovy, I didn't know we could embed videos here too. Thanks, Thor--
Ah, Wordgirl and her articulate arsenal...
I’m considering being Wordgirl for Halloween.
-
Inappropriate? Here's a topic about what HTML tags are allowed in posts, just fyi.
I’m hoping you WILL be Wordgirl for Halloween. But the real question is who would be Captain Huggypants?
-
Inappropriate?Great, promise to read up, Amy.
And after that, I will sew my Wordgirl costume.
There is a Flickr group for those who have already made SuperWhy! costumes for their kids.
I’m off to convince someone to be Captain Huggypants for Halloween.
-
I found this site looking for Wordgirl Halloween costume. My daughter will be five this Halloween and my new daughter will be 2 months old, so I have my Huggyface - now where to get costumes? Please follow up if you do make/find costumes. Thanks! -
Inappropriate?"Super Why" and "Super Reader" should be using lower case alphabet for common words.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?Thanks for your comment, calicosue.
The show title (Super Why!) and the Super Readers (Super Why, Princess Presto, Wonder Red, and Alpha Pig) are capitalized because they reference the television program title and the official character titles; Princess Presto's business card, for example, might read: "Princess Presto, Super Reader".
We hope that everyone watching the show will become a super reader along with the Super Readers.
I’m happy to talk about grammar and reading.
-
Inappropriate? My 19 month old daughter LOVES Super Why! We used to be all about Blue's Clues, but now she shuns Blue and asks for Super Why.
I've had the Super Why theme song stuck in my head for days. It's a good show so I feel good about letting her watch it.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Braksgirl, I'm happy to hear that your daughter likes Super Why!
If you want to hear the theme song even more :) you can find it here: http://pbskids.org/superwhy/
(click on 'Super Stuff' in the left column and then on the 'videos' button in the center and it plays the show's opening sequence)
There are also more songs if you click the 'music' tab on this same page.
For even more Super Why!, paste this address into a podcasting tool:
http://feeds.pbs.org/pbskids/superwhy...
I’m delighed to hear about Super Why! fans.
-
Inappropriate?Oh gee thanks!
I could probably put on a very nice karaoke rendition of the theme right now as it's running through my head.
"Who's got the power, the power to read?" Indeed.
When I get home tonight I'll let her listen to the songs on my laptop. I'll also have my husband download the podcasts to Popcorn Hour so our little girl can watch them on tv.
Thanks!
I’m gonna Princess Presto that song out of my head soon.
