Has anyone added a tag cloud to their wiki? If so, how did you go about doing it?

When I try to append html using the pbwiki 2.0 api and the AppendPage operation, it inserts spaces between paragraph tags. What's interesting is that the page looks fine, until you edit the page using the pbwiki UI. Once you enter the edit screen, the GUI editor looks fine, but if you click 'source', an extra set of paragraph tags are inserted between each piece of tagged html.

For instance:

produces

test1
test2

Now if you edit the page via pbwiki UI and save the changes, you get:

test1

test2

and the source code looks like: [w/out the % symbols]

<%p%>test2<%/p%>
<%p%> <%/p%>

Any ideas on what's causing this?

Is there a way to tag users, much like you tag a page, so that you can say I want to give this group of users permission to this folder or page?

Calendar Tag Colors

In the shortcuts section of the calendar it mentions being able to tag an event a certain color, i.e. meetings are blue. How do you do this? I'm beating by head against the wall.

It'd be awesome if there were a tag cloud (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tag_cloud) of what pbwiki was working on at any given time... engineers could end their day (or when they switch tasks) by putting in a few keywords for the feature/bug that they worked on.. then the users community could get the pulse of what is getting time devoted against it at any time... this would be especially useful because it seems like there are so many number 1 top priority things, there's no way that they could all be getting meaningful work done against them at once... (educator logins, office integration, mobile devices, better search, performance and scalability, migration and automation, etc)

I think that increased visibilty may lead to better dialog, happier uses (although I'll bet that 94% of all pbwiki users are happy, but its the unhappy ones that are drawn to the help forums, so they appear here in higher concentrations) and even a nice dose of the accountability that comes from self-reflection.

just a thought.

It's sort of annoying when two people use a tag with the same word, but different case, and pbwiki doesn't recognize them as the same: e.g. dan vs Dan get treated as separate tags.

How have you structured the tagging functionality? What kinds of analysis can be done on the collective set of tags for a pbwiki?

I am interested in accessing the large number of tags that have been created on a wiki for a university composition course in order to do some analysis, including clustering and looking for emergent semantics. I wanted to know how pbwiki manages the tags in its underlying database, whether I could download the tags for analysis using another app, in what formats I could download them, what associated information (i.e., users and pages) I could download with them, and so on.

The wiki I'm interested in analyzing is wyrd2thewiki.pbwiki.com.

Thanks for any help or insights you can provide.

making sidebar links from tags

Can I make a link in the sidebar that will pull up all the pages that have the same tag in it?
Or a list of all the pages with that tag?

For example, if 1000 people entered their books in my wiki and 100 of them are tagged with the word "picture book" and another 250 of them are tagged with the word "family" I want to have links in the sidebard that will pull up all the pages tagged with "picture book" and another one with all the pages tagged "family".

I may be asking the Wiki to be something it isn't designed to be - like a database - but I'd like to see if I could make it work.

For now I am using 2.0 but I think I will have to ask to be switched to 1.0 because I will need to make this available to a large number of people.

I would like to be able to list the tags used on our wiki on the home page and have that list updated as new tags are added to pages (this is similar to how many blogs are organized.) Also, display the particular page's tags more visible at the top of the page (or side, top.) Lastly, one other feature (also bloglike) is: when you click a tag I would like a slightly expanded view of the pages with that tag (like 3 lines possibly instead of the one line summary showing now.) I know this sounds like I should be using a blog instead of a wiki but I think adding some blog like features will allow us to add more content faster and locate it with the above enhancements.

add button for Add Tag"

I created a new button called "Add Tag". This is because I have chosen to suppress the footer which unfortunately obscures the way to do page tagging.

By adding a new button, which shows up for every user, how to tag should be pretty obvious.

Problem is: How do I amend the addButton code so that it will actually add the tag? Creating the button was easy: I used the following code from the widget library to get the button to appear:

Big problem. Break tags are not holding - on "save" the WYSIWG tool turns them into tags.

Hi,

I missed the bit about new and improved tagging in the webinar. Is tagging going to be easier. I don't see any screen shots in the Daily peanut. Really what I'm wondering if you are implementing a system where you don't have to type in tags freehand all the time. Look at tagging in get satisfaction. You click on a link of a popular tag and it is automatically added. Predictive tagging would be good as well. What I mean by that is when you start type the new tag in the form field, all previously entered tags with same prefix show up like a drop-down box and you pick the one you want. Sorry don't know the technical term for it but I think you know what I mean.

I hope you are planning something on those lines and if not please consider it.
