How can I add a child-safe chat to my wiki?
Question from a teacher using PBwiki for a classroom: ...I saw the chat program at the bottom of page. I have some serious, serious, serious concerns about that program. The program itself sounds amazing! I would love for my students to have an inter-wiki live communication system. I think that's an amazing idea. The one on there is not acceptable, sadly. It's the friendfinder ad at the top right of the program.

Inappropriate? As we all know, most free web services are ad-sponsored. We use the gabbly.com chat service plugin as a free chat room here.
There are many alternatives and finding the right one for you can be a big job. I do have one suggestion you may find workable.
Go to http://www.chatmaker.net/
Enter in the name of your chat room.
Either copy the resulting chat room link into your wiki page or try embedding the chat page in your wiki page using the HTML command called IFRAME.
Here's an example of the IFRAME code for a chat room I made:
<IFRAME SRC="http://www.chatmaker.net/chatap/rooms/help4all/" WIDTH=550 HEIGHT=550></IFRAME>
Just use our HTML plugin to insert this code into your wiki page. Be sure to change the "helpforall" text in the code to the name of your chat room.
This chat room is only private if your wiki is private. Anyone viewing the page can join in on the chat.
It's an ad-free chat room for now. It may not stay that way forever.
I’m always looking for a better answer ...
