Inappropriate?Excellent,
I'll try that. The feed behind the RSS icon of my page looks like this :
http://barcamp.org/rss2.php?a=f2bfb88...
So I changed it into this :
http://barcamp.org/rss2.php?page=BarC...
Is that correct ?
I'm asking because I added the feed to my netvibes account and it's empty right now, although I just made some changes on the wiki. How long does it take to be updated ?
Thanks for your support
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate? It's probably most correct to include both the key parameter AND the page parameter for the individual page feed, like so:
http://barcamp.org/rss2.php?a=f2bfb88...
Sometimes it takes a day for things to get updated, and there may be some special considerations for barcamp since it is such a large wiki. I AM somewhat surprised that it has yet to be updated, however.
I’m somewhat puzzled

Inappropriate?Thanks Vu,
I'm afraid it does'nt work. Did you test the feed in your reader ?
I pasted the 3 feed in my netvibes account :
(1) The generic feed for the whole barcamp.org :
http://barcamp.org/rss2.php?a=f2bfb88...
(2) The feed for BarCampAlsace5 with page parameter
http://barcamp.org/rss2.php?page=BarC...
(3) The feed for BarCampAlsace5 with page parameter AND key parameter
http://barcamp.org/rss2.php?a=f2bfb88...
I changed the content of the BarCampAlsace5 and I waited.
Approx. 1 hour later, my changes appeared in the generic feed (1) but nothing happened in the single-page feeds I put up (2) & (3).
So I'm still left with the same problem...
PS : I didn't really understand the meaning of your last sentence "AM somewhat surprised that it has yet to be updated, however." - Sorry for my poor english
Sorry if it takes long for me to answer - I'm in France and I get your answers some 9 hours later
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I at first thought that the issue was just time, but there's something wrong with that page specifically, because all other pages I have checked work fine:
http://barcamp.org/rss2.php?a=f2bfb88...
That is a link to the rss for just BarCampHyderabad5 and it works perfectly, so I am puzzled also.
Any restrictions on BarCampAlsace5? Is it hidden or locked or something?
I’m puzzled
-
Inappropriate?Well, hem.... I seriously don't have a clue...
I see I have the same problem on BarCampAlsace & BarCampAlsace4.
What do you mean by locked ? I need the barcamp password to edit it but it's the same one all over the wiki.
The changes I made appear in the generic barcamp.org feed, but not in my specific ones...
The source code seems to be the same as on Hyderabad5.
Maybe I should contact the PBWiki Team ?
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Hello Casey,
Thanks for the hint. But it doesn't work on my page, although it works on other pages (see my conversation with Vu).
Is something wrong with my sourcecode ?
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?I'm looking into this now, but I'm not personally too familiar with RSS, so I'm learning as I go! I'll try to help you once I figure out how it all works. In the links you and Vu posted though, I noticed they have the number 2 after /rss - (barcamp.org/rss2.php?...)
In the link I posted, there was no 2 after /rss - could that have anything to do with it?
I’m going out on a limb here
-
Inappropriate? The generic barcamp.org feed also has a 2 in it and it works fine, as well as the one in BarCampHyderabad. So I don't think that's the problem...
I’m stuck in the sourcecode

Inappropriate?Alright, so, after talking with Nathan, the CTO here at PBwiki, he's explained to me that the problem is a bug in the feed generator - it's a side effect of the size and vibrancy of the barcamp wiki. The barcamp wiki has so many thousands of changes that when trying to access them, you access a cache of those changes, which refreshes when a certain number (think a large number) of more changes have happened. If changes to the BarCampAlsace5 wiki page happen to be at the top of that list when it refreshes, it will post those few (say a hundred or thousand) changes to the RSS feed. But your changes aren't always going to occur when the cache refreshes, so for the most part you won't be notified when there are changes. This is a known issue, but because fixing it could (with high probability) slow things down across the PBwiki service, it's something we aren't willing to rush into without figuring out how to do it right.
A suggestion I would make is to (perhaps at the next Alsace barcamp!) move your page's information to a new wiki (barcampalsace.pbwiki.com is available now, I just checked it!) and redirect traffic there. That would mean there would be far less edits to that wiki, meaning a RSS feed of the changes would post at every change, and you wouldn't lose any.

Inappropriate?Well Ok, this makes things clear. I didn't know they were so many issues with big RSS feeds. My actual problem remains but at least I know what to do at the next BarCampAlsace.
Thanks for the advice and the long explanation, I appreciate
