How to remove description text from RSS feed?
Problem with RSS feed - Description of site appears keep appearing on the RSS url. Goal is to use FeedBurner BuxzzBoost feed with plain text. I keep getting the following at the end of each post: CITIZEN POWER ALLIANCE Blog and Citizen Power Alliance Site provide member groups, partner organizations and individual supporters the ability to post, share and edit information by using the CPAgroup Wiki.
I deleted this text from the WiKi description section and deactivated the Title/Description module within FeedBurner. View CITIZEN POWER ALLIANCE at: http://citizenpoweralliance.org/ top middle column to see the problem.
DO NOT want the description to be part of each feed. Please provide solution?

Inappropriate?Follow up. The RSS url for the CPAgroup WiKi is: https://cpagroup.pbwiki.com/rss2.php
This address will not transfer content in either Widgetbox or with SpringWidgets.
What might be the solution?
James Hall -
Inappropriate?Regarding the description text, the only way to get rid of it is to get rid of the description altogether in Settings --> About this Wiki.
As for making it work in those widgets, I've found that Widgetbox will work if you remove the http:// (https://) and just keep the rest of the address. I don't know WHY it's able to resolve the host better that way, but it works.

Inappropriate?Vu Nguyen,
Confirm that description was take out previously on the admin page:
http://cpagroup.pbwiki.com/admin.php
Also tried to take out beginning of xml url and that did NOT work.
Any other ideas? The http://cpagroup.pbwiki.com/rss2.php feed has the description removed. But the description still appears in FeedBurner BuzzBoost. Have all the setting correct in FeedBurner.
How or where could the description be picked up by FeedBurner?
The first paragraph on the Front Page has the description phrase. Surely, the RSS xml url isn't picking up that text, or is it?

I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?Do you have your FeedBurner code on a page that's publically viewable?
Also, try editing a page. The feed doesn't change the description until another page is edited.

Inappropriate?Vu Nguyen,
Code can be viewed from the Blogger template on the CPA Blog:
http://citizenpoweralliance.org/
Below is the code for the Buzz Boost which is being used:
<noscript> Subscribe to RSS headline updates from:
Powered by FeedBurner
</noscript>
Note that the Headline Animator FeedBurner feed at the top of the text feed is working fine.
Appreciate the help. This is the problem I need to fix. The Widgetbox issue can wait,

Inappropriate?Sorry, it looks like the code did not post. Better go to the CPA Blog and grab it from the view source.

Inappropriate?Within FeedBurner have Optimize tab have Title and Description turned off. Same problem when it was turned on.
FeedBurner help page:
http://www.google.com/support/feedbur...
has a displayExcerpts code. You will probably need to go to the page to grab it. Will try to post it. -
Inappropriate?Right now, your feed still has the description, so you need to make some random edit to your wiki to get rid of that first. We'll see from there where that takes us. --Vu

Inappropriate?OK, I just make a post of a new article. Nothing to change on the description box since it is empty.
I can try to place a short line in the description box to see if it will change in the FeedBurner feed. But will wait to try this options for your comments. -
Inappropriate? Now I'm stumped as well, because the actual source code of your feed checks out just fine. The description has changed accordingly and the new article is up, but FeedBurner is pulling the text from...SOMEWHERE.
Does FeedBurner let you delete its widget and start over? They might be saving the description text or something from an older version.
Anyway, I went to FeedBurner and took the liberty to create my own version of your feed:
http://non-educational.pbwiki.com/RSS
(Feel free to login to that wiki and delete that page--the invite key is "easy2guess" w/o quotes)
Hope that helps!

Inappropriate?Vu Nguyen,
I can change the text feed within FeedBurner to 20 or 50 words and the error description section shortens. Attempts to change the description within WiKi are not successful. Looks like the issue is that the old description is still on your server. Can pbwiki clear the cache of somehow allow for the new description put into the box? This is the change made:
Copyright © 2006-2008 CITIZEN POWER ALLIANCE
I save this above change, but the text transfer remains the same. Took out the same text change within FeedBurner Title.Description section.
Problem in on the pbwiki end. What method of resolution can pbwiki provide to correct? Please detail the steps I need to take next to clear out the old description text.

I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I'm not sure what you mean. If you look directly at the source of the RSS feed, the description has been changed to this. Furthermore, if you look at the link I sent above ( http://non-educational.pbwiki.com/RSS ), I have recreated your feed without the offending text.

Inappropriate? For reference, here's the first few lines of rss2.php as it stands:

Inappropriate?Nu,
Note the rss uls for: http://cpagroup.pbwiki.com/rss.php
and for http://cpagroup.pbwiki.com/rss2.php are getting the same error from FeedBurner and the Validator results are below.
The RSS url works in the address line of the browser to bring up the RSS page, but why are there two xml url's ???
http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?ur...
FeedBurnerError getting URL: 301 - Moved Permanently

The feed URL you entered is:
http://cpagroup.pbwiki.com/rss.php
We could not find a valid feed at that address. Here are some possible reasons this might have happened:
Is the feed valid? Confirm its validity now.
The feed your site already creates needs to be “valid enough” to work with FeedBurner. This post from the FeedBurner Help Center explains why technical validity matters.
Are you using the URL of the web page or the URL of the feed?
FeedBurner is usually able to "auto-discover" your feed from a web page, but in this case we didn't find any related feeds. You may want to enter the URL of the feed directly.
Is the URL is misspelled or a copy+paste action didn't work?
If that's the case, please try again.

Inappropriate?I typed in https://cpagroup.pbwiki.com/rss2.php and the feed came out valid. Can you try that instead?
-
Inappropriate?Nu,
I did try http://cpagroup.pbwiki.com/rss2.php
Same results.
Do you know of a different FEED generator service so I could test?
FeedBurner is as solid as they get. I'm using over 50 feeds now with no problem.
I can't create a new account within FeedBurner with either RSS url's.
Will try again.

Inappropriate?Nu,
Got the FeedBurner feed to work. Needed to delete several features within FeedBurner.
Widgetbox still does not find the RSS feed.
https://cpagroup.pbwiki.com/rss.php
https://cpagroup.pbwiki.com/rss2.php
http://cpagroup.pbwiki.com/rss.php
http://cpagroup.pbwiki.com/rss2.php
cpagroup.pbwiki.com/rss.php
cpagroup.pbwiki.com/rss2.php
http://feeds.feedburner.com/CPAgroupWiki
all tried and not work.
Any other ideas?
Thanks much for your help!
JH

Inappropriate?Which Widgetbox widget are you using? Some of them work while others don't. One of the ones that didn't work gave me a message that the https protocol wouldn't work, so that could be some clue.
-
Inappropriate?Hi James,
Thanks for sending us this information. The problem will be fixed in our next release. The issue is due to a non-standard element that Bloglines is inserting into the top of your feed "<access:restriction>". You may be able to work around this if you try using another service to deliver your feed content. Alternatively, you can wait until the new code goes out in a few weeks.
Hope this helps!
