I have problems using wikis on Safari. The tools are not there. Any help?
The editing tools are not displayed on the safari browser. Is there something I can do (I have the latest browser version).

Hi Matt,
We've released PBwiki 2.0, which supports Safari nicely. It works great, and as promised, I'm using PBwiki with the point-and-click editor just fine. Newly-created wikis are 2.0 by default now, and we're working now on bringing our existing user's wikis from 1.0 to 2.0 mode, which includes Safari support.
I’m happy

The current (early January 2008) release of PBwiki lets you use Safari to edit pages with the 'Classic' editor - it's text-only, and doesn't show the resulting styles, images and text sizes you'd see with our 'Point and Click' editor - the one you're used to seeing on Firefox or Internet Explorer.
We're working hard on the next release, in previews soon, which will work on Safari just like it does on Firefox and Internet Explorer. We'll most likely require Safari version 3, but that's a free download for most versions of OS X and Windows. I personally prefer Safari as my browser and the new PBwiki is very fast, so I'll be a happy camper and hopefully so will you.
I’m excited

Inappropriate?Any idea if the Safari-friendly changes will also enable Fluid SSBs? Fluid is based on WebKit, so I hope so!
-
Inappropriate?Stephen,
Not having tried Fluid, I'll commit to 'probably' but no assurances at this time. We may have to make slight changes in the browser-detection code to make it work, but the underlying WebKit framework should work fine.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Fluid is cool! You can create SSBs (Site-Specific Browsers) for individual sites... I have one for banking, one for Google Apps, one for the university intranet, etc. So you can work without worrying about some rogue page crashing all twenty tabs that you have open. With a custom icon, it basically gives me a standalone desktop application for my PBwiki site! Check it out at <http://fluidapp.com/>.

Inappropriate? How does a statement that pbwiki's Point and Click mode does not work with Safari count as a solution to the problem? That's an acknowledgement that the problem is not solved.
I’m sad

Sounds good. I didn't realize that from the information here. -
Inappropriate?Well, it appears to support Safari but not fully. The insert image button does not show, not in Safari, not in Firefox 2, not in Flock, not Firefox 3 beta.
That leaves me wondering: is it me or is there still something to work out?
I’m unsure
-
Hi Fons- can you send a screenshot to support(at)pbwiki(dot)com so we can see what you can see? -
Inappropriate?Fons,
You can't see the button because it's not there. The old 'Insert Image' button

has been replaced by this dialog (on the far right-hand side of the V2.0 editor):
-
Inappropriate?Wel, I do understand that that gives the option to insert an uploaded image. But I haven't figured out yet how to insert a linked image or how to adjust how text flows around the image.
As I understood that was / is possible through the Insert image button.
btw I'm on a Mac, I didn't state that in my previous post
I’m not helped yet
-
Inappropriate?"how to insert a linked image"
Can't do it in V2.0 using the editor, there are apparently two tickets requesting that feature.
"adjust how text flows around the image"
Can't do that with the editor, either. Here are a couple of threads discussing that issue.
Both of these tasks require manual editing of the HTML source code.
I’m wishing you luck
-
Inappropriate?:)
I was afraid a 'solution' would involve the combination of 'manual' and 'HTML'.
Let's hope the support gurus will somehow get that to work. There are many online visual editors out there that do support Safari.
In the meantime I'll struggle with the HTML ;)
I’m confident

Inappropriate?I still cannot edit on Safari, another member of my group has reported the same... our wiki is new and I opted to use 2.0 when signing up... any thoughts?
-
Hi Danielle, Do you get any specific error message? Can you tell me what version of Safari you are using? Thanks! -
Inappropriate? Also, I can't change image sizes in Safari... like click-and-dragging re-sizing that I can do in Firefox.
I’m sad I can't edit solely using safari...yet
-
Hi Emily, PBwiki 1.0 does not support the use of Safari as an editor - is it possible to use another browser? Or, you can update your wiki to PBwiki 2.0 (which does support Safari) by going to www.pbwiki.com/2 -
Rachel: I am using 2.0, with a platinum wiki. I mostly use Firefox, since I have quite a few images, but every once in a while, I forget, open Safari, and while everything else in 2.0 works *fantastically,* it's just the image re-sizing that doesn't appear to work. Sorry about not being clear -- I'll blame it on the early hour when I posted! :) -
Hi Emily, Thanks for the clarification! This has been reported in our bug tracking system as #886, and it appears that Safari does not support the click and drag image resizing. I'll add your comments to the ticket, and hopefully we'll be able to come up with a work-around for you :) -
Rachel: Awesome! If a work-around isn't possible, using Firefox (now v. 3!) for my wiki is working just dandy... so I'll just keep using that. Thanks!
