If this is a wiki, how do I use wiki syntax?
I would like to add a link to a new page which has not been created yet. This is a common thing in a wiki. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedi...
The more people who ask this question, the more it gets noticed.

Hello Cendion, in the edit mode of your 2.0 wiki, look on the right panel. You'll see a link named "insert a link to a new page." This should allow you to create a link to a page that does not exist yet.
I hope this is what you were looking for!

Inappropriate? Here is a link to their wiki syntax. It is only supported on their V1.0 wikis, and further it is only supported by their text editor (the "Classic Editor"). Neither has been released for V2.0
I’m never leaving V1.0

Inappropriate?I'm curious about the designation of "real wiki." While I prefer syntax in many cases, does the lack of syntax in 2.0 really make that version less of a wiki? It might make it less techie-oriented, but the opinions on whether that is a good or bad thing vary wildly.
As to your specific problem, you can create a link to a new page in PBwiki 2.0 by clicking on the "Link to a new page" link on the right hand side of the page, at the top of the page links scroll box. In 1.0's Point&Click editor, it's done by creating a link using the link button in the toolbar. Guy has already provided you with the syntax for 1.0's Classic Editor.
Hope that helps!

Well, back in 1995 (when you were in middle school, I think), Ward Cunningham created the WikiWikiWeb. He used a simplified markup to format text. The most authoritative source of information ever compiled, Wikipedia, defines a wiki as "... a collection of web pages designed to enable anyone who accesses it to contribute or modify content, using a simplified markup language". (They reference the OED, but it has disappeared behind a paywall).
does the lack of syntax in 2.0 really make that version less of a wiki?
Yes. A wiki that does not support markup is as meaningless as "HTML email". Both were conceived and deployed, and marketed by those wishing to make money from the widest possible base of users possessing no technical acumen. It may generate record revenue, but it's not a wiki.

Inappropriate?I know *how* to create links in the 2.0 interface. My problem is that I can ́t create links to pages that does not exist yet. This would come in handy when writing a text and thinking ahead that this or that should be a new article for someone to write. When clicking on the empty link they would then come to an empty page on which they could start writing directly. This is also good when linking in from another program (for say documenting code from an issue tracker).
The best thing with wikis is that you can create new namespaces directly with the link. This does not seem to be possible with pbwiki. Not good. Pbwiki feels much more like a CMS than a WiKi.
Where nice interface though. I also like the good MS Word importing capabilities.
I’m a bit sad..

Inappropriate? Thanks, that's good to now, it seemed Vu already tried to tell me that :-)
I did not manage to create a new namespace (like a new folder) in the same process though... (and it's still not wiki syntax). I also noticed that if I name the link something I HAVE to not change the name for the actual link in the next step, or else it will become a NEW page which is NOT linked.. (phui, hard to explain).

Inappropriate? One possibility is to have the rich-text editor actually interpret inline wiki syntax. Thus, while you could do your normal rich-text link entry, you could also do the old [page|some text] WikiStyle syntax, which would get parsed upon display. You'd basically have a hybrid editor that would allow both styles.
Thoughts on this hypothetical editor? -
Inappropriate?"Thoughts on this hypothetical editor?"
They can't make WYSIWYG work now. God forbid they add anything new to it. Perhaps they could allow us to use the fully-functional text editor they already have?

Inappropriate? The main problem is that I still cannot create a new page in a specified namespace/directory. Especially not with just some simple editor coding ala wiki-syntax.
I think adding wiki-syntax parsing to the rich-text editor may be one way to solve it. How the pbwiki people choose to solve it is not that important for me. Another way could be to have like two different views/tabs: Wysiwyg | wiki-syntax, where the wysiwyg shows the rendered syntax.

Inappropriate?Hi,
Namespace and Wiki syntax are two different issues altogether. PBwiki has never supported name-spacing, even when it was a syntax only editor. The organizational options currently available are tagging and folders (one-level). That isn't ideal for some uses, though, I can imagine. Can you describe your use case a little more?
I ran into a problem with namespaces when I tried to create a multi-lingual wiki. I ultimately just created two wikis, one in each language. It wasn't ideal, but depending on your situation, it may be "good enough."
