Managing Users
The more people who ask this question, the more it gets noticed.

Inappropriate? The fact that one guy with an "ibm.com" address has a wiki hardly means that IBM is using PBwiki. You need to take their marketing claims as just that, marketing claims.

Inappropriate?Hi sraymond,
We're working on improving user management right now. The first step is transitioning most/all users to PBwiki Accounts (which we're doing).
Next will be making managing those users easier. PBwiki 2.0 does a better job of this, and we have a roadmap for even improving upon that.
We know this is something we need to improve, so please stay tuned for interface improvements. -
Inappropriate? For the record: I don't consider forcing visitors to get a PBwiki Account before they can see my wiki an improvement.
Right now I can just send them the Invite Key and the URL of my wiki. Done. Easy as ... Especially since my visitors are not very puter-savvy. -
Inappropriate? This is a really tough one. We have users who want more control over who sees their wiki, so PBwiki Accounts are a natural fit for them. Usernames/passwords are pretty standard online.
But for some people, they value simplicity -- especially educators, whose students often don't have email addresses.
Offering both as a choice is very confusing, which has led to many of the login-related questions you see here. We're trying to simplify this, so I really appreciate your thoughts.
No matter what solution we come up with, we'll test it in beta and make it as simple as possible. -
Inappropriate?I agree that it's tough, I don't agree with ur reasoning that it's confusing.
If you explain it well, I don't see a problem. The thing is you guys aren't very successful in explaining things ...
And that's all apart from privacy issues I have with PBwiki Accounts. -
Inappropriate? The "magic urls" seem like an easy solution to making things less confusing. It's clear it's not tied to any authentication (password or id) and serves the purpose (KISS!).
I'm on the side of needling more control over who sees the wiki - so I'm anxiously waiting for the improvements. 2.0 might be nice, but until I can migrate my old wiki (or at least get a premium beta without having to pay again), I can't really put it through it's paces.
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate?Of course you can't be expected to judge something when you haven't really used it. And as a user/tester of 2.0, I can tell you there's usually at least one thing different every time I log on :) We're still working to improve it, and it's gotten lots better since I first saw it.
So when we finally do release it, it will also be with full documentation (which, I can tell you, will make my job sooo much easier), and I'm not sure when exactly this will be after the release, but you'll be able to change your 1.0 wiki to 2.0 and try everything out with regards to a wiki you actually use.
Trying out a beta wiki is great, but seeing how 2.0 integrates with YOUR wiki is a different matter.
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?I meant that I can't really test 2.0 without it being premium-level. Am I expected to buy another new (premium) wiki to test 2.0? If I want to put it through its paces, how do I invite all the users from my old wiki? I can't even get a simple list of all the e-mails.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Right now, you can't purchase a premium plan for 2.0 - no matter what. However, why don't you email sales@pbwiki - TK might be able to help you deal with the issues that you're having, which I'm sure we'll encounter again with other users. I don't want to promise you anything, but I know that we offer free trials of the business plans currently - when 2.0 is released, I think having a similar deal in place would not be out of the question.
Again, I encourage you to talk to TK, as he's the guy we like to put in charge of hard but very, very important questions like yours :)
