Safari is "ps"ing my file downloads!
The more people who report this problem, the more it gets noticed.

Inappropriate?Hmm, this sounds like an issue with Safari - it looks like a lot of other people are having a similar issue with different websites. Either way, you can rename your document as a .pdf and it should still open.
-
Inappropriate?.ps files are PostScript, which is also produced by Adobe and closely related to the .pdf format. While some sites require the latest "bleeding edge" version of Safari, those new versions are usually a bit unstable.

Inappropriate?If I surf the web using Safari 3.1.1 and visit a PBwiki and click on a pdf linkie it will download the pdf as xxx.pdf.ps. If I visit any other site on The World Wide Web and do the same thing it will show me the pdf inline. In fact, any pdf from pbwiki domain downloads as .pdf.ps. Go figure.
-
By the way, this also happens in 'bleeding edge' Safari version 2.0.4. -
Apple is blaiming the website that sends the file (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304155), some people too say it's a server issue (http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-167086.html), some blaim MS Office 2008 (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6549428) - which is not the case. I guess it's time PBwiki developers gain access to a MacOSX machine? -
Inappropriate?I'm a Mac user. On Safari 3.0.4 I just uploaded a PDF to my wiki and tried to download. While it did download as a pdf.ps, it immediately converted from .ps to .pdf upon the incompletion of the download. The file, however, did get an error. I have reported this as bug #871. Thanks for the links, MacUser- this will definitely help us out :)
-
Inappropriate?Hey again - the Apple article gives a good tip (Thanks again, MacUser!). You can rename the file after download (just get rid of the .ps extenstion) and it will open!
I realize this is not a fix, but until we get the issue resolved this should help you out. -
Inappropriate?Hi folks;
We're working on fixing this problem -- the change will go out with the next deployment (sometime next week).
