Use PBWiki for online class debate?
The more people who ask this question, the more it gets noticed.

Inappropriate?Hi Jim,
I don't believe the "logistics" are a big hurdle in a situation where you want to simply have a discussion in a wiki.
I'd create a new wiki with the appropriate title, then I'd outline the overall scope of the discussion on the front page and make sure I was the only editor for that page.
I'd create additional pages for each debater so that each has his own page to make arguments on.
As the discussion progresses, each debater can modify his/her page to respond to ideas or points brought up by the other debaters.
When you decide the debate has concluded, you can publish the resulting complete debate on a single page by copying and pasting each argument onto the debate page.
Providing links to each argument in the sidebar will assist in allowing the debaters to see each other's arguments.
Have fun!

Inappropriate? Thanks, Clif. I like it, I like it.
I was thinking along the lines of having each team make a wiki for the debate prep work and then using a chat room or forum for the actual debate. But your plan seems simpler and less formal.

Inappropriate?Be sure to make use of the page comments. As admin, you can always remove comments that are no longer needed.
Also keep in mind that only one person at a time can edit a page. If a page has been open editing for 10 minutes or longer, it's possible to "steal" an edit lock.
That may force you to have your teams work on more than one page per team if they are working concurrently. They can develop some good teamwork skills as they each contribute and merge their pages into their team's argument.

Inappropriate? In PBwiki 2.0, this might then be a fun time to arrange folders only viewable by members of a given group until they are ready to unveil their overall argument.
-
Inappropriate? Thanks. Nice idea. But how I limit a folder? (I am using the free version.)
-
Inappropriate?Sorry, I wasn't clear. You need to have a premium wiki of some sort for folder security. A possible workaround for free users is to have one wiki for each group.
