What exactly is a wiki?
I'm pretty new to this wiki thing, I was wondering if you could explain a little more about the concept.

Inappropriate?No problem, here's a brief explanation about wikis in general:
A wiki is a kind of free-form website that is easy to edit. Edits are done in plain text and don't require learning fancy or complex codes like HTML. Just start typing! It's also easy to create new pages and make links to pages you've already made.
And with PBwiki:
On a pbwiki, any visitor with the site's password can edit any page on the site. pbwikis can be made public to allow anyone to read a wiki, while still restricting editing to those who know the wiki's password. But pbwikis can be private, too.

Inappropriate?For collaboration I think there are two basic kinds of tools--those that foster a flow of conversation (e.g. blogs, discussion boards) and those that enable people to curate documents over time. Wikis are the definitive tool in the latter category. Use Wordpress or Tumblr if you want to keep an online journal, and PBWiki if you want to document the features of a new product or provide resources for a class you're teaching.
Wikis, and PBWiki in particular, are ideal for all kinds of purposes where you want living documents about a subject. My wife and I have a wiki for our household matters where we keep account lists, lists of vacation spots we'd like to visit, frequent flyer codes, etc. At work we have all the HR docs, product documentation, holidays schedule and policies. See, so very flexible!
