Why don't I have the icon to insert images in pbwiki 2.0?
I can't insert images. I am a new user to PBWiki, version 2.0 (teacherguides)
I am using IE 7 on a PC.
I can create/edit pages just fine but I do not have the icon to allow me to insert images.

Inappropriate?Because they "improved" it away. Now, you must use the 'Image and files' tab in the 'Insert links' box on the right-hand side of the editor. Just click an image name, and it will be inserted in the page. (Yes, it will insert the image, despite the fact that the box is labeled 'Insert links').

Inappropriate?Grrr. So I can't use any remote hosting for pics either? Or only through hand coding?
Oh, and thank you.
I’m not very happy at all.
-
Inappropriate? No, you do that another way. You have to use the 'Insert/Edit Link' button (looks like a globe and chain). Pick 'URL' from the 'Link Type' box, then paste the URL of the image in the 'URL' box.
I’m a fan of consistent user interfaces
-
Inappropriate?Hmmm - I can do that but all I get is a link to the image. I can't make it show on the page.
I'm with you on the consistent user interfaces. I'm trying to set this up so people can do it themselves, but it's going to be tough for some non-tech types.
I’m still not so thrilled.

Inappropriate?Hi Susan - what steps were you using before to insert remote-hosted images into your wiki?
-
Rachel, if you mean before on PBWiki - I wasn't. I'm new to this particular Wiki but not new to Wiki's in general. I just set up my 2.0 PBWiki last night so I could start on the new one from scratch. Was that the question you had? If not, please ask me again. Thanks for checking in. -
Inappropriate?Ah, I see. You are correct; they have removed any way to insert offsite images except by editing the HTML source directly. I'm sure it was security-related somehow.
I’m glad I don't have to explain to Grandma how to embed pictures of her grandkids that are hosted on Flickr!
-
Yeah - that's sort of where I was heading with this. The Wiki is a place for a bunch of children's writers and half of them are early adopters of technology and the other half go into it kicking and screaming. :) As for security, hmm....I was just thinking I already have all my images on my website and it so much easier just to link to them. I'll figure out how to deal with it. -
Hey Guy - are you aware of a way to embed remote hosted images that would be easier? I'm not that familiar with it- so please let me know if you have a better way I can suggest to people (and to our engineers!) -
Sure. On the 'Images and files' tab, right above the 'upload' edit box, place a box for entering an image URL. The editor already constructs a URL for the locally-hosted file, when creating the IMG tag; just use the user-entered URL instead. -
Inappropriate?Hi Susan,
Thanks- that makes sense- I was wondering if perhaps you had used PBwiki before and used a remote image method I wasn't familiar with. The best way to put them in, as Guy suggests, is using the HTML plugin. Sorry!
