Am I just missing a spell checker?
Most CMS systems and forums of any kind have spell checkers these days. Am I just missing it in pbWiki? Is it in the Premium version. The feature list on the pricing page says very little. There are no questions about spell checkers here. Is there some trick to spell checking long documents, already formatted with wiki markup (which does not always play nicely with spell checkers?)

Inappropriate?Sorry, you aren't dreaming. We don't have a spell checker here yet.
However, don't lose hope. There are some great free spell checkers out there that will work fine in any web page, including ours.
See this article I wrote:

Or maybe this one?

I’m hoping this helps.

Inappropriate? The current version of FireFox has a built in spell-checker too: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
-
Inappropriate?FireFox will provide spell checking in the comments box and, importantly, in the source view of the editor, but not the WYSIWYG view of the editor. Not so Internet Explorer -- I checked. This means that I can spell check as I edit. If you know some html, it's a good idea to check your code anyway.

I’m excited

Inappropriate? This was over 7 months ago...can you please give an update on the spell check? I tried to use the spell check on firefox but it does not work for the editor. Update please!!
-
Inappropriate? We do have one of our engineers working on a spell checker. Don't hold your breath though. It still needs much work and testing.
As you might guess, getting something like that to work in several different web browsers is a lot of work.
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for the update Cliff...I will just use the good ole cut and paste into Word for a spell check...or learn to spell...one or the other. :)
-
Inappropriate?Just another vote for a spell checker, even if it's just a PBWiki officially sanctioned third-party plug in. Thanks!

Inappropriate?Hey all!
Our engineering team has been working on an *awesome* new spell check tool. It is currently set to be tested by our alpha team starting this week, and before too long we hope to release it to everyone. Stay tuned, I hope to update you soon!
I’m looking forward to this!

Inappropriate?I just got this question from one of my students.
Here is some context as to why this is a crucial \"feature\".
Obviously all students are familiar with Microsoft word, and when asked to collaborate online with a wiki it takes some effort in explaining how to do just that.
All of them are very tempted to write everything offline, email it to all group members, rewrite, copy paste, email, ... versions ... again and again When the due date gets close the copy all onto the wiki and voila.
To avoid this problem I require them to write on wiki, or simply not allowing emailing of partial documents. If I now have to tell them to copy all content from the wiki to word to do their spell check that would be crazy.
When I noticed this is a request 2 years old I got concerned. Have you not been able to leverage any of the open source spellcheckers. 2+ years development seems strange. Very. -
Inappropriate?Hi Bart,
Try this video out on your students to help them understand why a wiki is better than email.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dnL00...
2 years developement would be long if that was the only thing we have been doing. PBwiki has been growing like crazy. We've added tons of features since we first opened the doors (3 years ago). Spell check is only one of many projects we have going at the moment.

Inappropriate?Clif thank you for your response.
yes I know the videos from Lee and use them sometimes to introduce applications.
It is clear you are interested in what your customers have to say by the fact that you are embracing the get satisfaction application.
In no way did I mean to insinuate that you were not working hard or that I don't appreciate the updates or more importantly stable platform. I was just expressing that I was surprised this feature was not high on the priority list and that this would take this long. I thought with all the open source WYSIWYG editors out there this could go faster.
Another great service is to help turn your company 'outside in' is http://uservoice.com/ . This can tell you that you are prioritizing your work according to what your customers want most.
Hey I might just be one of the few that wants this ;-) -
Inappropriate?Spellcheck is now available!
Feel free to drop us a support ticket at http://pbwiki.com/support.wiki if you need any help! Don't forget to include your wiki name.
I’m happy and confident!
