Approval system for prospective new wiki readers who initiate an access request?
I want my wiki to be private, with new users (Readers) adding themselves through a process like the following. Is it possible? How? Thanks!
1) Person goes to my website, decides he wants to view my wiki, clicks the link and lands on my pbwiki page, which is Private.
2) Person fills out a little form requesting access, selecting logon and PW or using an existing pbwiki logon and PW. There is also at least one customizable field, and preferably more, where they can pick from lists or checkboxes or write something in text fields, etc.
3) They click submit and it generates an email to me (Admin) or a moderator I designate.
4) We review the request and either approve it, deny it, or request more info (reply).
5) An email is then automatically sent to the prospective reader with the results, such as "you've been approved... you can now access the wiki with your logon and PW.
If this is possible, how is it done and what are the limitations, if any. If it' not possible, is it on the horizon? When?

A system like this is already in place. When people land on the login screen of your wiki, they can use the "Contact the Owner" link to e-mail you and ask for permission to view your site :)

Inappropriate?That's not very useful. There should be a "request access" link or something similar. That link should lead to a page where people fill out and submit a little form. The form should be customizable by wiki owners, such as some might require different info to make the "allow/deny" decision. The form customization should include the usual options, such as text fields, dropdowns, radio buttons, checkboxes, etc. That's what I'm asking about. "Contact the Owner" is pretty much useless. The owner might not be the one moderating these requests, in fact the owner probably won't be the one moderating, as that would be assigned to one or more moderators, who receive email notifications of new requests and have access to the queue. But I take it that's not an option. So please add it as a feature request. Thanks!

The more the wiki Admin can customize this, the more pertinent info that will be received for evaluating the merits of the access request, and the less follow-up work that said Admin will have to do. It will do much to save time, effort, and aggravation. -
Inappropriate?For someone who's job is to provide cheerful support for a product with a pathetically limited set of features, I think they do a great job of "stretching" what they have, in order to make do. Think of it like one of those "cooking on a budget"-type shows. It's not her fault that the only "improvements" they seem to make are the ones no one wants. I know I couldn't support this product with a straight face! -

We try to meet the needs of our users, but with 400,000 users it's sometimes difficult to meet the specific needs of individual users. We do, however, seriously consider all feedback and feature requests.

Inappropriate?Ski: Thanks for your thoughts. We've actually discussed a "request access" feature internally. While we can't promise that every feature will get released, we'll add your feedback to our product management discussions.
We're working hard to make the product even better - as Rachel mentioned, while we can't make each and every user completely happy, we do try to do the right thing for the majority of our userbase.

Inappropriate?To chime in as well, we recognize Request Access as a very important feature - we'll work on this as soon as we get some of the other details of the 2.0 release out the door.
