Can PBWiki software be installed on our server (Unix/PHP/MySQL),
We like PBwiki but we want to access the database with a database protocol and port, which is not available at PBWiki. Without this facility, we cannot develop any connection between our database and PBWiki.
Can PBwiki provide this to manage the users/contributors ourselves, and link with our member database

Inappropriate?pbwiki is a hosted solution because the backend is both robust and proprietary.
You still own all your own data, and their login methods are secure, so it's a fine solution from that standpoint.
If you want interoperability with a proprietary backend within your system, you can supply a custom user authentication routine, as well as using the pbwiki API to exchange information between your databases and the pbwiki servers.
