edit page button stops being clickable after too much mouseovering!
Sometimes, in firefox 2.0.0.6 on Windows XP, after mousing over all the links in the top of the page (Home/Edit Page/New Page/Comments/Files) a few times, the "edit page" link then becomes unclickable. Please make the edit page degrade gracefully or something, so that it's always able to be clicked, sometimes the javascript is making it unclickable, which is annoying and will confuse the other people who are just starting to use my wiki.
This occurs in the Hyperreal skin and the Bamboo skin, and I've also seen it happen once so far in the default "snakeskin" skin. It may be related to a lot of javascript activity prior to the mouseover failing, though I couldn't say.

Inappropriate?Hi there! I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.12 on Mac OS X 10.5 - I'm having trouble reproducing your issue. Could you give me a list of steps to take to reproduce this issue? Can you still reproduce this issue after disabling your Firefox Extensions?
-
Inappropriate?Hi, there's actually no Javascript associated with these buttons. At most, there are CSS :hover effects being used, which shouldn't affect anything.
Is your computer otherwise lagging and are you seeing bugs in links in other webpages? I see this happening on my older XP machine when it starts running out of memory (as awesome as Firefox is, it's a memory hog).
I’m investigating
-
Inappropriate?Pretty sure that the firefox extensions on that machine were minimal (fireftp and perhaps the delicious toolbar) but if I encounter the problem again on that machine, I'll check that.
The problem may have had to do with memory, which would explain why doing a lot of hovering or mousing over would cause the links to become inactive (memory slowly maxing out) though I didn't experience any problem with any other links or downloads or ads or flash in that browser. In fact, the lower "edit page" button would still be accessible when the upper link failed, so it wasn't really an issue that I would have a problem with (annoying, but I'd just be able to page down to edit the page) but I'm introducing a large group of students new to pbwiki to the concept, and I expect that it'd be frustrating for them if their edit links stopped working.
Regardless, if I find the problem happening again... ...err, what should I do, continue this topic explaining how it was occurring in more detail? Start a new thread? -
Inappropriate?Hi tchalvak,
Yeah, I'm watching this thread, so you can just reply here and I'll get an email. If you can get me any more details about how to reproduce this bug, it'll go a long way towards solving it.
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Ah, I was perceiving what was happening wrong.
The links aren't becoming deactivated, their active location is actually becoming shifted. So on the hyperreal skin, on this page:
http://compsci219.pbwiki.com/SRS
the top links (Home/Edit Page/New Page/Comments/Files) are no longer clickable over their actual text, the clickable space is now shifted about one letter space up, above the word itself.
Hopefully that gets closer to the issue (there's also a lot of weird content on that page, so that may be affecting the css somehow).
I’m able to click the links now, at least if I search for 'em.

Inappropriate?Hi,
Are you still having problems with this page? Every browser I'm trying it in is highlighting the link and activating it exactly where one would expect.
Weird.
I’m confused

this solves the problem

Inappropriate?I certainly think this is all good and closed, who even uses firefox 2 any more? *smiles*
I’m nostalgic.
