How can I add security to files? I don't want all files available to all users.

Due in part to this feedback, we've decided to prioritize easily setting file-level sharing permissions and it's now on our engineering task list. We'll be working on that as soon as we clean up some other urgent tasks. Thanks so much for telling us what you need!

Inappropriate? As our CTO mentions in the thread below, while it is not currently available, it is a feature we are working on:

Inappropriate?Thank you for allowing us to be heard. I feel like we're "getting satisfaction".
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate? Will you please provide an update to this? I'm waiting to roll out some information (uploaded files) that need user-level permissions.
-
Inappropriate? We don't have this available yet, but as far as I know, progress is going well. I'll try to have someone jump in with an update during the work-week.
-
Inappropriate?Any word on when this might be released? We can't upload any sensitive files to our wiki because of this...
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?I also have this problem but haven't gotten an answer on another thread.
When we purchased the wiki we were told that file security existed, not that it was in the pipeline. I can change my folders in Custom Security; but, when I save the new settings, I get a blank page that says, "folder doesn't exist" at the top. We do not have periods in the page names.
Please let me know ASAP when this bug is fixed.
I’m beyond frustrated and now seriously concerned about our wiki usefulness

Hi Margaret - can you email support(at)pbwiki(dot)com with your wiki name? Thanks! -
Inappropriate? You're going to need to change the name of this site pretty soon! It's frustrating not to get any update on this and we're sure not getting satisfaction.
I’m frustrated

I'm sorry you feel that way sraymond, but our engineers are doing their best to prioritize between bug fixes and new features. File security will have to be implemented carefully and tested thoroughly, as it will have to match up with our general dedication to security. Hope you understand. -

I didn't ask for your "sorry" - I merely explained it's frustrating not to get any update. I'm sure you all are doing your best getting things developed but I don't see how that has anything to do with communication. Isn't this site supposed to be about communication?
So, no, I don't understand why careful implementation and good communication are mutually exclusive.

Inappropriate?I think that something like this could help:

It's been my experience that increased engineering transparency helps with satisfaction. -
Inappropriate? So here's an update - work on this feature has begun in earnest. We've got a first draft design of the production done - the UI is going to help unify several currently-disparate interfaces, adding both file-level security and files in folders. (AllPages, changes.php, FindPage, tags.php, upload.php, and the Folder pages currently present themselves differently, which can be befuddling to new users.) The engineering backend work for both files in folders and file-level security has already been completed; this work was prioritized as a direct result of this thread on GSFN.
We're also going to be working on making our roadmap and ongoing development more transparent without interfering with our core mission of actually improving the product as fast as possible. :)
And thanks for continuing to speak your mind candidly; these kinds of conversations are what help us move both the company and the product forward.

Inappropriate?David,
Thank you very much for taking the time to provide this update - it's much appreciated. Communication of this sort goes a long way to keeping us satisfied! It's also much easier to be patient knowing things are progressing...
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?I keep finding this thread when looking for how to set file permissions. Hopefully this thread is outdated and this feature is available already. How about another update to make it easier to be patient again? Will this be available by/before/after fall? Any suggestions how to work around users seeing all files until this feature is ready?
-
Inappropriate?I hope this feature is on its way, or I am going to lose the executive participation in the company wiki soon. Any release dates?

Inappropriate?For anyone interested
