Inappropriate?Interestingly, adding video is actually EASIER with PBwiki than audio. To add a video, just go into Editing mode and click "Insert Plugin." Then click "Video." If you have the URL for a YouTube video that is already online, click "YouTube." Otherwise, click "upload video" and follow the directions in the window.
PBwiki does not currently have a recommended 3rd-party plugin for audio, but you might try using Odeo ( http://odeo.com ). Like YouTube, it has a version of its player that you can embed in a website. To use it (and other similar services that offer embedded players), copy the HTML code they provide and in your PBwiki Editor, click "Insert Plugin" --> "PBwiki Magic" --> "HTML", and then insert your code.
Hope that helps,
Vu

Inappropriate?I would like a little clarification about this response. What does it mean to embed something into a website?
Thanks,
Becky
I’m quizzical and unsure.

Inappropriate? It's roughly the same as the non-internet use of the word: to fix firmly in a surrounding mass. If you've ever seen a youtube video in a non-youtube web page, that's embedding. It's most often applied to things like A/V content, and the term "embedding" implies that not only is the content available, but the means to view the content is also available. That's what makes it different from "linking". If you click on a link to a video, then your browser will usually try to download it to your PC. But if you click on an embedded video, then it will usually begin playing, right in the web page. That's because there's a small bit of code attached to the video, which makes it play, instead of just download.
I hope that made sense.

Inappropriate? Thanks for helping me to understand this better. I'm still trying to understand more clearly what this means. If an audio or video clip is embedded in the webpage, that means that when you close the webpage, it doesn't take up any space on your hard drive? Is that right? Is that the same thing as streaming video or audio? Or is that different? Is the way that I know whether or not the audio or video is embedded in the site is dependent on whether or not icon is left on my desktop after I close the website?

Inappropriate?"If an audio or video clip is embedded in the webpage, that means that when you close the webpage, it doesn't take up any space on your hard drive?"
Sort of. Embedded means "it plays in the web page". The file must live on the internet somewhere. It can be on your wiki, or it can be on another site, like youtube. It cannot be on your hard drive.
"Is that the same thing as streaming video or audio?"
Not really. A stream might be embedded in a web page, or it might use a standalone player. Chances are, you'll not be dealing with streams much, so let's leave them out of this discussion, for simplicity's sake.
"Is the way that I know whether or not the audio or video is embedded in the site is dependent on whether or not icon is left on my desktop after I close the website?"
Well, the two things are related, but they're not exactly cause and effect. If it's on your desktop, then you have downloaded it to your PC. If you can click on something, in your web page, and it plays, in your web page, then it is embedded, in your web page.

Inappropriate? Thanks, Guy. That helps me to understand. I'm rather new to all of this so I needed to read it several times.
I’m happt to have a better understanding.

Inappropriate?Hi there... I find no option to upload a video. Video capability will be of immense importance in our Wiki and going through Youtube isn't exactly ideal. Therefore, is there a direct upload option as you say, or has it been removed for space saving / other reasons? Thanks.
I’m concerned that the answer is incorrect

Inappropriate?Hello - we've discovered a bug with our video editor- the engineers are working on this. In the meantime if you can host your video somewhere else you can embed the code with your wiki's HTML plugin. I apologize for the inconvenience.
