Issues with table alignment and right click menus
I have been working with tables in my wikis this weekend and have stumbled upon two fairly serious issues. Firstly table alignment does not work in Firefox 3. It does work in IE 7. Secondly, there is something up with the right click table menus in IE 7. You cannot choose cell properties in the drop down because the link is menu link is cut off at the bottom so you cannot click on it. See picture below. These are pretty big bugs IMO and I think they need speedy attention.

Inappropriate?Hi Sean,
The IE7 problem is in our queue for a fix. I'll have to check on the Firefox problem. I'm not sure that the alignment and spacing ever did work perfectly on tables. We are working on that.
I do have a work-around if you need it. I found that the table alignment seems to work ok in FF3, but the table spacing is definitely not right.

Inappropriate?A work-around I've been using in IE7 for the right-click table menu problem (though kind of a pain) is to type a temporary link into the cell I wish to right-click in. (I typed in: d@d.d) When you right-click on the link, you get a bigger menu which somehow makes more room for the cell submenu.

Inappropriate? Thanks for the tip Clif & Dave. I can hack my way round pbwiki but I would prefer not to. We shouldn't have to for simple tasks like these. There have been bugs with tables every since pbwiki's start and I really don't know why something so important is allowed to grumble on for so long. Why couldn't the effort spent on lets say the column sorting feature be spent on making the basics reliable?? This is not the first time I have complained about neglecting the basics in favour of adding new features (welcome and all as they are!) and I wish the powers that be would take note.
I’m frustrated but not surprised

Inappropriate?Hi, I too logged this problem about 4 months ago. see : http://getsatisfaction.com/pbwiki/top...
hopefully it will get fixed soon as its annoying as i like to be able to create table quickly and easily with cell colours but this is hampering efforts.

Inappropriate?I appreciate your comments about this. I've forwarded them to a couple of people. I can't promise immediate action.
Sorry.

Inappropriate?I think a simple workaround (short term solution) would be that you (pbwiki staff) just add an extra blank cell or two in the left hand menu at the bottom (perhaps in grey) when someone right clicks on a menu. This would then force the left menu to show one more row (the cell properties) for ie.7 .
It wouldnt affect any other browsers they would just see a blank row on the left menu - not doing any harm to anyone.
Until a proper fix is found of course. -
I meant when someone right clicks on a table - not menu! -
Inappropriate?Clif,
Are we any closer to having this alignment problem fixed. I Have a table on the front page of one of my wikis which is aligned centrally in IE 7(as it is supposed to be) and aligns left in FF 3.5. Its god damn awful and it really makes the front page look unprofessional. A fix is needed ASAP or if anyone has a workaround I'm all ears.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Hi Sean,
What version of Firefox did you say you have? If you are using a beta version of Firefox, all bets are off if that's the reason you are seeing this issue.
Can you show me a table on a public page or attach two screen shots to show me what you are seeing?
In the mean time, I'll look into this and see if we have any current tickets with table alignment problems.
Thanks for the question and watch your language. You won't get a second warning.

Inappropriate?Clif,
I'm not using a beta browser - its FF 3.0.8 - and this has been a issue for a long long time. Here is the screenshot.
Clif, I have been posting on forums (including this and the previous forum) for years and I have never received a warning about my language. I really do take exception to the fact that I have been warned given using language you will hear everyday watching TV before and after the watershed. Interpretation is everything and if you feel that you need to apply these Draconian restrictions then I suppose its Pbwiki's perogative but it leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. Would it have been more appropriate to say God rain fury on this everlasting Bug to demonstrate my frustration or would that
be insulting to Atheists.
I’m ****** off!

Inappropriate?Hi SeanMac - Do you think you could contact me through the Help link on your wiki (help -> contact support)? I'm not able to reproduce the problem on my wiki, but I'd love to be able to work with you directly to resolve this. Thanks!

Inappropriate?Hi Rachel,
I have fixed it. As you can see in the above screenshots, there are pictures of the UK and Spanish and these are located in a table which is set to be centrally aligned. IE renders it fine but FF aligns it to the left despite the setting. The reason it seems is that Firefoxs rendering of picture alignment supercedes that of tables. It never occured to me before but the I had not set the alignment properties of the pictures. When I set the alignment of the pictures to center, the problem is solved. Yipee. Might be worth documenting this for your users.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Hi Seanmac - glad to hear it! I'll add some documentation of this to our user manual.
