Premium, early-adopter wikis and 2.0
What's the plan for "premium, early-adopter" wikis with regard to 2.0? I seem to recall, back in the day, that "upgrading" an early-adopter wiki would actually remove features. If such a wiki converts to 2.0, will it continue have all available features? At the same price? Specific details would be nice. Thanks.

Inappropriate?Right now, we don't have the specific features set up that will become paid or not. These will be announced when they are finalized. Also keep an eye on the blog (blog.pbwiki.com) for updates.
-
Inappropriate?Keep in mind also that even when the migration is ready, not everybody will have to switch to 2.0 for a while yet.
-
Inappropriate? That really implies that we will be forced to switch at some point. Would someone at PBwiki care to make an official response? Will we ever be forced to migrate to PBwiki 2.0?
I’m expecting the sound of crickets
-
Inappropriate?Within the next few weeks, all users will be given the *option* of migrating over to 2.0 - we won't force you to change if you don't want to. Additionally, around this time you will also not be able to create a new 1.0 wiki any longer - we haven't picked dates on this yet.
With that being said - there *will* come a time later this year (or even next year) when we'll be forced to end support for 1.0 wikis. We still won't cut off your 1.0 wikis and we don't plan to - ever.
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate? But, as you clamp down on formerly free features, and restrict the options that we can and have been using for years, what happens when those changes break something in 1.0? Once you've dropped support for 1.0, does that mean you won't fix it anymore? Will "premium" 1.0 wikis become free? Or will we still be paying full price for an unsupported wiki?
I’m nervous now
-
Inappropriate?"Once you've dropped support for 1.0, does that mean you won't fix it anymore?"
Yes *but* that's quite a way down the road. In fact, by the time this happens, the vast minority of PBwiki's will still be 1.0 - we're confident that these folks will want to switch to 2.0. (In fact, we're migrating our first batches of 1.0 wikis within the next week - these are users that have specifically asked to be migrated.)
Just a reminder: this is standard practice, just look at MS and other software companies.
"Will "premium" 1.0 wikis become free?"
I don't have the answer to this - what I can say is that we're going to be revamping our pricing structure around the end of Q2 '08. Everyone's 1.0 wikis are going to expire eventually - they'll have to renew on our new pricing structure when that time comes.
-
Hmm... how would someone like me get on that list of migrating from early adopter to 2.0? -
Inappropriate?Wow. You are comparing your company to one of the most hated companies on earth? That's harsh. Besides, I thought you guys were an ASP, and not a software company.
Back to the original question. I have a "premium, early-adopter" wiki. Those never expire, at least not until now. I know y'all haven't made a decision yet, but when you do, would you be so kind as to update this thread with the exact date when my "premium, early-adopter" wiki will expire? Thanks so much.
I’m looking forward to losing features!
-
Inappropriate?I'm just trying to make a point - we can't support old versions indefinitely. Like it or not, that's just the plain truth.
"Would you be so kind as to update this thread with the exact date when my "premium, early-adopter" wiki will expire?"
Absolutely - we'll post that here ASAP.
-
Inappropriate? Thanks. I know companies and software have to evolve, but...if you were as upfront about the features you're taking away as you are about the features you're adding, then much of this discussion would be moot. It might not be fair, but at least we'd know where we stand. Sorry if I seem grouchy - my favorite wiki is taking my toys away, and I don't like it.
I’m going to miss 1.0 - a lot.
-
Inappropriate? When are premium features going to be available to 2.0? I'd really like to get my wiki upgraded (penotes.pbwiki.com) ASAP but need to keep the premium features.
Who do I tell to upgrade my wiki next week? -
Inappropriate?Sraymond, we're working on this right now (literally, we have different teams all coordinating this week). Although I don't have an exact date for you, we intend to release this very soon. Thanks for being patient as we iron out the last details.
