Uploaded File Backups
Recently I have been interested in backing up files. I am aware of the backup option in the settings page which allows current as well as complete backups. However, this option does not seem to backup the files uploaded on the site. Is there a way to do a mass download of the files uploaded onto the site for backup purposes?

Inappropriate?Hi Patrick,
Unfortunately, we don't offer a file back up at this time (just wiki pages). This is definitely something we've heard our users want, and I've passed your request to our product manager. I'll update this thread when/if we add this feature.
Thanks for your feedback! -
Inappropriate?Dear Rachel,
how often does pbWiki backs up the wiki pages? (from your servers). This means that the attached documents are not automatically backed at your end too right? -
Inappropriate?Hi Domo,
Although the answer can get very complex, a simple answer is that your wiki, all it's pages and files are backed up every 4 hours in multiple locations and even off-site.
Thanks for asking.

Inappropriate?Hi Clif, thanks for your answer. My users are asking this because they are worried about loosing their uploaded pdf files, pictures etc. incase of a server crash
I'm confused. Rachel mentions that files are not backed up, but your reply says that files are backed up. -
Inappropriate?Hi Domo,
Rachel said that we don't offer file backups (for downloading to your computer). I'm sorry for the confusion. I see how what she said could be interpreted as telling you we don't do backups here.
If you need to download personal backups of the files on your wiki, you'll have to download them one at a time from the Pages and Files section. It's not convenient, but it's all we have right now. -
Inappropriate?Thanks Clif,
so to speak, pbWiki does backup my user's uploaded attachements (pdf, docs, picts etc) on your server. If anything happens and the wiki site crashes, my users can rest assured that the wiki pages AND any uploaded files can be restored. :)
That is such good news, I will let my users know. Thanks again.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Hi Domo,
Even though we back up everything here in multiple places, there is no replacement for personal backups. I recommend that everyone keep a local copy of anything that they upload.
This isn't the place for lectures, but I also want to preach the gospel of backing up your PC and all it's files. Backing up your PC can save you tons of headaches when things go bad.
There are tons of great free backup utilities online that make backing up easy.

Inappropriate? It looks like file backup for PBwiki may be arriving soon. I saw this when I went to backup my wiki today.
-
Inappropriate?Hey folks,
Just to inform everyone file backup is now avialable to all premium users. You can give it a test by going to your wiki settings -> backup and make sure to check off the check box to include your files! -
Inappropriate?I have to post in this discussion that I could not be happier with pbwiki's efforts to address its user's request. All the issues I have had have been responded to if not corrected in very short time. Thank you for your great support staff and engineering to back it up.
I’m thankful
