A wiki invite key is a word or string of characters that lets a person access that wiki. Previously, PBwiki referred to the wiki invite key as the wiki password. We've changed the name to "invite key" to reduce the chances of confusion with your PBwiki Account password.
You choose the wiki invite key when you create your wiki, though you can change it later on by clicking on the "Settings" link in your wiki, and clicking the "Keys and Access" link in the Access Controls section.

Inappropriate? If I have already invited users via email (through the Settings/Users path) and I then choose to set an invite key for the same level of access I granted via the email invitation, will my previous users now have to login with the invite key? (I hope this question makes sense!)

Inappropriate?Would it be possible to replace "invite key" with a more easily self-explained concept .. such as "invited editor password" ??

Inappropriate? What is the equivalent invite function for V2.0? Does V2.0 only allow invitation through the add user function? I need to be able to invite people to join whose email I do not have.
-
Hi James. Currently users are only added through the "Add user" function. We're working on a better solution for wiki admins that do not have a user's email address. -
Inappropriate? Will you start a refund request for me? PBwiki is totally useless to me without the ability to openly allow access when I want to.
-
James, you can still use PBwiki 1.0 - which still uses invite keys. Would that be an option for you? -
Maybe. What will I lose? Will you do the conversion for me? I'll have to recreate the whole site if not - I wish I could create pages in an html editor and ftp them to the server. Is this an option? -
james, just contact me at support(at)pbwiki(dot)com so we can talk about your options :) -
Inappropriate? What's with the Star "This answers the question". This link could stifle comments.
As evidenced by the subsequent replys, the first comment does not answer the questions (frustration) the rest of us feel.re 2.0
"The Company" should withdraw it's 'star' (and possibly this 'conversation stopping" link period)
I’m angry about conversation stopping links

Inappropriate?Open invite keys make collaboration so simple-- post the invite keys on the website and share the website URL. Those interested keep in touch and bookmark the URL. Others don't. Collaboration becomes so extraordinarily simple! I believe there is a huge business promise in this idea and it can be a great business model.
I am sad that all 1.0 are being converted to 2.0 in 2 months, thereby removing all invite keys. Any collaboration will be dependent on me creating and maintaining user accounts and people remembering theirs. Too much of a hassle for people remembering their user accounts. And when they forget, its a big hassle for me. PBwiki says it is for safety, but I haven't experienced any safety issues for last 2 years nor did I expect any in future.
Now, VERY reluctantly, I am searching for other wikis that provide open invite keys.
I’m very sad

Inappropriate?Hi PK,
If you have an educational wiki, you can very easily use a Classroom Account to allow that same type of access to a wiki.
It allows you to create an unlimited number of user names and passwords that you can pass out to one or many users.
