Why a wiki?
Why should I use a wiki to manage my business, and specifically why PBwiki? I understand the versatillity of wikis, but for my purposes I'm not sure how it's any better than a Google or even Yahoo! Group.

Inappropriate?The answer to your question certainly depends upon your unique set of needs. However, in general, a wiki is much better at group tasks and organization than either Yahoo or Google groups. Both of those are merely mailing lists and email isn't the best way to exchange information unless only one person talks and everyone else is silent.

You mentioned other integrated data management services. You'll have to be more specific and I'm not sure I'm familiar with all of them.
One thing I can point out is the PBwiki is really easy to get up and running. You won't need help from an IT department and most users catch on quickly. I don't think you'd be able to say the same of many data management services.

Inappropriate?In comparison to groups/mailing lists, the key is the ability to organize the wiki to facilitate getting your work done.
If you simply want to operate a mailing list, a wiki isn't the right solution.
On the other hand, PBwiki is a much better solution for many other use cases than a mailing list. For example:
--Collaborating on a document: This is much easier with PBwiki's versioning and ability to back out changes than with an email thread.
--Managing a project: If you're managing a project, you probably want to be able to set up a schedule, list key points, take notes on meetings, and make the whole thing searchable. It's hard to do that with a mailing list.
--Maintaining documentation or references: If you want to know what is the proper policy or how to execute a business process, an organized wiki is much more effective than searching through old emails
Used properly, PBwiki is the glue that can hold your company together, tying together everything from meeting notes to external links.
