How do I create a wiki 2.0 invite key. I have been everywhere in the settings screen and I can't find it.

Inappropriate?Hi,
We are phasing out invite keys in PBwiki 2.0, as part of an ongoing effort to simplify the login process. To invite new users to your wiki, you simply need to type in their email address in the share box in the lower right hand corner and they will be invited at writer level. The share box also has a link to the User panel in Settings, which gives more in-depth sharing options.
I hope that clears things up!

Inappropriate?Okay I sent an e-mail to a user and when they followed the link to the wiki (which doesn't look like a link [maybe you need to use the old-school underline trick]) it took them to a screen that asked them to enter a wiki invite key. There is a smaller section on the right of this same screen that says you can login if your already a member. So if invite keys are old and not going to be used anymore and the right side of the screen is that vague what are my users suppose to do. I know this sounds harsh and I am not trying to be but this seems a lot more confusing when the idea was to make logins easier.

Inappropriate?I want invite keys back. The people who edit wikis that I create don't always want to have an extra account.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Going to have to agree with Rosie. I know PB is working on new login schemes, but the invite key was, um, key to the happiness of parents using their child's classroom wiki. The teacher may not have all parent emails to send v2 invites to and the invite key could be included as a link on the page for any parent to use.
I’m waiting for v2 logins to surface

Inappropriate?PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE BRING BACK THE INVITE KEYS. These were essential to how we use and share the wiki with a semi-private community. I don't want the world to see my wiki but there are a group of people such as parents, workshop participants, school administrators, and so forth who should have access to the wiki but I don't have email addresses for as the wiki admin for my site.
If I had known this I would have not agreed to have this as a 2.0 wiki. How do I downgrade and transfer my files???
I’m frustrated, disappointed, in need of different wiki software...

Inappropriate?I agree the invite key was a brilliant way to manage wikis. Please bring them back!
-
Inappropriate?I think we should bring back magic URLs... because they could give you a way to get into the wiki without a confusing login screen, but allow you to give access to a select list of folks.
-
Inappropriate?OK, this is NOT going to work for me, folks - at all. Forcing people to register for a PBwiki account is most definitely NOT the way to win friends and influence people – all it does is build negativity. As far as the people I need to invite to participate in my wiki are concerned, PBwiki is my HOST, and they don’t understand why they should have an account there. There should be a mechanism by which wiki owners can register an email address so the owner of that address can participate in that specific wiki without having to have a PBwiki account. Is this really so hard to implement? Until this issue is resolved, I can NOT use my premium wiki. I’ve been waiting two months already, so I’m really not a happy camper.
I’m wasting time and money by sticking with PBwiki.

Inappropriate?Ok, I doubt they'll bring invite keys back because they were a way to get around the three free accounts or you pay. I suspect that they need to raise more cash so once you have three email accounts, you have to pay the fee to get more users. I've just created one account and given everyone the password to it to overcome this new wrinkle. For my use, a cub scout troop, it is ok because I don't need to track who does what, and we don't blog on it, so there is no need for anyone to identify themselves.

Paid seats are only for business users. PBwiki is still free for Educators and Individuals. We got rid of invite keys because it made it harder to track users for the admins - PBwiki Accounts are much more secure, and it is easier to assign permission levels, add and remove people. So for your cub scout troop, we wouldn't charge you on a per-seat basis! -
Inappropriate? It's more convenient to track users and permissions using the new scheme.
However, it's highly annoying to have to create a new account for every site you visit. If the new scheme is permanent, you need to at least allow OpenID.
I’m annoyed

Inappropriate?Hi James - luckily, we already to support OpenID. Check it out on your my.pbwiki.com, or read more about it here: http://pbwikimanual.pbwiki.com/My%2BP...
I hope this helps! -
OpenID doesn't help me in the least. I need to be able to give my users easy access to the wiki, WITHOUT having to have a PBwiki or OpenID or any kind of account. They don't have a PBwiki and they don't want to have a PBwiki -- is that really so hard to understand? If I could simply give them a link to my wiki like the old invite keys or to a page where they could input their email address and a password (which I could also revoke at will), that would solve it. I'm talking about people I would invite to join a private wiki -- some of them are pretty computer incompetent and can barely use email, and some don’t know any English, so it has to be super easy for them. Heck, Wetpaint wiki confused them! Back at the end of March I got a Platinum PBwiki for beta testing 2.0, and I haven't been able to use it! It's just sitting there, rotting away, and it will expire in about three months. At least it hasn't cost me anything, but it's still such a waste... Until this issue is resolved, PBwiki is not something I can use, except as a place to keep my private notes. It’s not a space I can share. :-( -
Inappropriate?Hi TexasT - have you tried our classroom accounts feature? You can create user names and passwords for your users and easily hand them out with instructions. Would that work for you?
-
That would work grrrrreat, to quote Tony the Tiger! I hadn't looked at anything "educational" or related to it, because it's a personal wiki, not really an educational one, although I planned on having "educational" articles on health and medical topics. So this is available to all accounts? Awesome! (And awesomely fast reply, too!) I'm back to being a happy camper... :-) -
This is available to all educational wikis. If you'd like to contact support through the Help link on your wiki, we'd be happy to get you moved over so you can try this. -

Ahh, I see. Never mind then. But thanks for your help anyway. -
Inappropriate?Completely agree that invite keys was the main reason for using and being delighted with PB wiki. Accounts and passwords are a MAJOR barrier to adoption of wikis in groups, sooner or later people forget the passwords and resort to emailing each other. Without invite keys I am no longer interested to use PB works
