My thoughts on Peer to Peer 2.0
There were multiple problems with the 2 year report in Peer 2.0. This is a report that most credit unions use often. Printing – when printing the 2 year report for a credit union it automatically went to print the same credit union 100 times. Not sure why. We tried this several times and looked at the print options. Formatting: The formatting of the 2 year in Peer2 is not as clean as the existing version. The spacing between the income statement and the balance sheet is off. Also, there is no shading on the %change column in the new Peer2 2 year – when it prints. The shading for the 2year in Peer 2 shows on the screen.
Overall the program looks good. Need to get the 2-year to work correctly.

Inappropriate? The 5 year FPR and Ratio Reports in Peer 2.0 don't include the Peer averages -- like they did in Peer 1.0. How come? Can we include peer averages in the reports?
-
Inappropriate?P2P 2.0 isn't ready for a full release yet. Never mind the install problems, but there is a major lack of functionality. Not being able to copy custom displays makes it, in my opinion, a nonfunctional piece of beta software.
Addtionally, its nice that we can import 1.0 custom displays, but if we can't import our custom defined facts, then importing the feature is basically useless.
Also, where is the raw data? How am I supposed to build reports when I can even find the fields and commands to which my displays point?!?
Finaly, and this is my biggest pet peeve from v1.0 too, why cant we RESIZE the folder tree on the left? Any display longer than a couple of words can't be read and there is no horizontal scroll!
I had really high expectations for v2.0, and right now I'm really disappointed. I will be reconsidering whether we continue to use Callahan's software if this is the best they can do. -
Inappropriate? We greatly appreciate all straight forward and sincere feedback from our customers, which is part of the reason we’ve opened this forum. Without the ability to have very candid discussions or, now, forum postings about what our customers need and what our analysis products can do to help them achieve their goals, the original version of Peer to Peer would not have been nearly the success it has been over the past 15 years.
I’m reading that there are a few functionality upgrades that you would like to see implemented as soon as possible. Would it be fair to say that this is the list?
-Add Copy functionality to custom displays (i.e. ability to copy custom displays to other display folders within the application)
-Importing Custom Defined Facts from Peer 1 to 2
-Ability to resize the main navigation drop down menu
There was one other issue referenced about raw data that we’re not quite clear on. Are you speaking of the ability to use the Formula Wizard to find formulas and commands? If you could elaborate on this issue, we’ll see how we can build this into Peer to Peer 2.0.
We’re also open for a no-hard-feelings discussion about these and any other thoughts you have about either version of Peer to Peer. You can call us at 800-446-7453 and ask for Dan, Ray or Paul. -
Inappropriate? Is there a user's manual? I'm trying to recreate reports from the old version (since they did not transfer correctly) and I'm finding I can't use the same commands. For example, I have a report I do as part of a quarterly package that uses history. I had two columns; our Credit Union in column one & the average of the peers in the 2nd column. The custom report will no longer allow me to use 'Peer' in the formula. The formula was Peer((a370+A385)/loans) This is very frustrating. I'm also unhappy because most of the canned reports from the old version are gone & the ones that remain are not in the same format.

Inappropriate?Hi Ellen! Thanks very much for your feedback. The direct answer to your question is that we currently do not have a comprehensive user’s manual in the traditional sense.
Instead, we’ve developed a more user friendly reference to understanding Peer to Peer 2.0 at www.p2psoftware.com. We’re providing both a video and a downloadable PDF, step-by-step instruction sheet to deliver key ideas and how-to’s surrounding the application. Please look for them in the Training Room on the Learn How To tab.
Our site covers the basic topics that we feel will be of interest to most users who are looking at Peer to Peer 2.0 for the first time. Over the coming days and weeks we’ll be adding to this list with more advanced topics and video walk-throughs. And we’ll certainly be taking user requests, like yours, along the way. In fact, a list of the usable formulas and shortcuts is a great idea that we’ll start working on now for the site. Thanks! You can post other Learn How To ideas in this forum or drop us an email at software@creditunions.com or call us at 800.446.7453.
The Peer( .. ) command as it relates to custom chart conversions from the old version to the 2.0 version of Peer to Peer is being reviewed based on your feedback. Because the 2.0 application handles multiple peer comparisons in a much different manner than the old version, the Peer( .. ) command will need to be converted in some instances (History reports) and removed in others (Line Plot displays). Our programmers are working on the best way to approach this process and will release an update patch to correct the issue ASAP. This is definitely a high priority fix. We’ll alert everyone through our RSS feed on the landing page of Peer to Peer 2.0 when the patch is available.
Again, many thanks for sharing your concerns. I hope that this addresses your post until the fixes are in place. Please let us know if there are any other topics or issues that you’d like us to cover. -
Inappropriate? How do I transfer the Peer groups and custom reports I created in Peer 1 to Peer 2.0?
-
Inappropriate?Peer 2.0 is getting better. There are a couple of UI issues that really need to be updated/fixed, though:
1. Please make the column headers on reports wrap text. I get very weary of constantly having to re-size columns in order to tell what exactly the data is that I am looking at.
2. Folder Bar needs drag & drop capability so that I can keep things organized. I use custom reports almost exclusively, and its a real pain to navigate.
3. Likewise, please either make the folder bar re-sizeable or make the reports name text-wrappable. By the time you get to the level of custom displays, any report with a name longer than about 20 characters gets cut off and any forced horizontal scrolling on a menu bar is a very bad thing.
Also, something appears to be amiss with the formula wizard tree. I noticed after the most recent update that the file tree has several items repeated over and over. When you try to click on it, nothing happens. I have noticed the same problem in when you expand "My Facts" on that same tree.
I have not come accross any data issues as of yet, and I look forward to the Q4 update. Thanks for your hard work!

Hi Josh. I apologize in the delay in getting back to you. Since the 2.0.3.96 version, we've made a significant amount of upgrades. You are able to organize your custom displays by going to File --> Custom Displays. That is where you can drag/drop displays and create/delete folders. The formula wizard tree duplicate issue has also been resolved.
In terms of the folder bar being resizeable and making the column headers text wrap, I completely agree. We've acknowledged these issues and we're going to try to make them an upgrade as soon as possible.
Feel free to contact me personally if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks and have a great day.

Inappropriate?I really think we need a comprehensive User's Manual. This interface is nice and it is great to exchange ideas in this format, but when I want to do something simple like explore my options for formatting various custom reports I don't want to post a question. I want to RTFM, pardon my French.
In hindsight, it would have been very nice to provide some additional overlap with version 1.0 since there are so many issues with 2.0. It is a great program, with a lot of potential, but it is not ready for users who rely on this data for reporting to their bosses. How hard would it be to get Q408 and Q109 data exported to version 1.0 while 2.0 issues are still being addressed and a User's Manual is created?

Inappropriate?Hi Jason,
Thanks for posting your questions about Peer to Peer 2.0 resource materials and on the availability of Peer to Peer 1.0 going forward.
As of the Q3 2008 data release, we will no longer be updating our 1.0 software with quarterly data. We know that for some power users of the 1.0 version, the transition to the new 2.0 application will require unlearning some of the old, familiar ways of using our software. This is exactly why we have added a few new ways of communicating with our customers to help with their transitions.
We’ve created our new www.p2psoftware.com site as a starting point for replacing the telephone book sized reference manual. At p2psoftware.com, you’ll find both short video clips and downloadable PDF guides within the Training Room under the ‘Learn How To’ tab which outline the steps a user would take to accomplish fundamental tasks. Our plans are to continue to add video and text-based resources to the Training Room area of our site, basing the content on feedback we get from subscribers and ideas we have for Best Practices. To your question about the formatting of custom displays, we might have already addressed this on ‘Graph Index’ tab in the Training Room. On that tab we offer a description and a sample report for each of our custom display options. Please let us know if this resource answers your format question.
Our Get Satisfaction page is another new forum for helping our customers and will function as a searchable knowledge base as we respond to questions.
We also offer live, 60-minute, complimentary training sessions via Webex on fundamental and advanced topics several times a month. Please check the Training Room area on www.p2psoftware.com for our ‘Training’ tab to see upcoming session times, meeting agendas, and to register.
Of course, we are also able to respond to your specific questions via email sent to software@creditunions.com or with a call to our Software Team at 800.446.7453 Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm Eastern.
Thanks again for posting your feedback. -
Inappropriate? Thanks for the prompt response to my post. I don't mean to be a bother, but I disagree that switching to 2.0 just means we have to unlearn our old ways from 1.0. There are things that 2.0 cannot do for us that we have come to rely on as part of our business operations. These differences are there because of either enhancements or because of bugs that will be fixed in the future, but either way, the forced switch to 2.0 doesn't help us now when we already have so much changing in the industry.
I tried accessing the help in the program and that led me to the p2psoftware.com website. While there may be videos that help a lot, those are not ideal for 2 reasons. 1) watching videos is time consuming while flipping pages is easy. 2) we work in financial services where I.T. and security is extremely important. I am probably not alone when I say that I cannot watch streaming videos on my PC at work without getting all kinds of permissions and having I.T. temporarily allow my PC the access. We need a manual, and we need it now.
We knew that 2.0 would be different, and we knew that there would be a transition period. However I don't recall any of the letters, adverts, or emails that warned us that there would be no manual for the product you are selling. It is unacceptable and right now I am trying to convince our CU that these problems are temporary and can be resolved.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Jason,
I completely agree with you. 2.0 was not ready for distribution. From the errors I found, it appears that it was not thoroughly tested. I am doing the same here, trying to soothe admin and saying it is a transition. However, I have to manually test all of the formulas to make sure the correct results. And I will continue to do so until I have some level of confidence that it is working correctly. I ran into huge issues, because I do a package which contained a lot of the 'canned' reports from 1.0. They do not exist in 2.0 and I had to manually recreate all of them in Custom Displays. Some of the custom reports from 1.0, I could not recreate because the going back a # of quarters still doesn't work correctly. For those I have to get all of the information out of 2.0 & create them in Excel. It takes me at least twice as long to put together the package as it used to.
We really do need a manual. In a .pdf format on the website would be fine. If I need to find out how to do something, I don't have time to sit & watch a video - if there is even one available. I want to turn to a page & read how to do it.
It is very frustrating. -
Inappropriate?Callahan & Associates really seems committed to fixing this software. I have had some recent contact with their staff and they agree on most of these issues presented. Since there is currently no manual to reference, they are going to start producing one a bit at a time and posting those resources for our review. In the meantime we need to make sure that all 2.0 users communicate their concerns/suggestions to Callahan & Associates so that we can work towards a piece of software that meets our requirements.
It would be very nice if we could still use 1.0 in the meantime, but I just don't know if that is an option. If it is not then us users will have to support each other via this site and openly communicate our needs to the programmers to get our needs addressed. Please pass this site information to anyone you know that uses Peer-to-Peer so that we can get as much information as possible.
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate? We reached out to both Ellen and Jason to get their direct feedback in more detail. And we want to thank both of them for not only sharing their comments in the Get Satisfaction site but for their time in talking with us offline. Callahan and Associates greatly values this open forum for customers to share ideas with each other and with us.
As a result of this feedback, we’ve made a first round of instructional step-by-step PDF files available on www.p2psoftware.com in the Training Room – see the Learn How To tab. This is the starting point for what we anticipate will be a comprehensive (or as close to it as we can get) collection of resources on p2psoftware.com, in various forms. These reference documents currently outline the steps necessary to accomplish basic tasks within the software that we feel would be of interest to most, if not all, users. Based on our recent conversations, we now have a few more topics that we’ll be adding to this collection over the next few weeks. We will continue to add to this library as we hear from users about their specific needs.
As we are building out our text-based resources online in addition to the on-demand training videos which have been popular among many of our users. We wanted to remind everyone that we also offer live product training via Webex. And, you can reach us toll-free at 800.446.7453, Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm Eastern to schedule training, get help, ask any questions, or simply to let us know how we’re doing.
