FAQ replied on July 03, 2008 15:00 to the question "Can I process data on MatrixStore?" in Object Matrix:
MatrixStore has a place in most workflows, that is the safe repository to keep you stuff protected and available online.
At the moment processing of data (editing clips, compressor tasks etc) need to be done on the SAN.
The SAN is the place to perform the work required, MatrixStore the place to keep it safe and available.

Tape can still be a wish or even a requirement in some circumstances. When you can use tape as a deep archive with a tape robot mechanisism for automated retrieval of data on a particular tape, then tape can be used for data which will not be retreived for a long time. In these situations tape does require less power than disks. Of course retrieval time will be longer.

In the meantime Jeff, I would really recommend using Skitch to post screenshots and host images.
The combination of a rich capture client along with the simple image hosting service is amazingly natural. obviously that won't work for all of your customers, but It might help to recommend skitch to your users.

Using Satisfaction within the context of a software development company, attachments or images is going to be a crucial feature that we'll require to stay with Satisfaction long term. We need users to be able to send screenshots of what has gone wrong, or attach a piece of configuration, etc, to help solve the issue. Needing to do that kind of thing out-of-band via email will be annoying for us and then. We'll be able to scoot along without this, but is it in the works?
FAQ replied on May 16, 2008 15:32 to the question "Final Cut Server and MatrixStore?" in Object Matrix:
http://www.matrixstore.net/2008/05/15...
Just like ArtBox before it, Final Cut Server can now use MatrixStore as a “native” archiving device. This means MatrixStore can protect both your media files and metadata from within Final Cut Server. The interesting aspect of this is throughout the production process (ingest, editing & approvals, archiving to finding archived media) a single application can be used - Final Cut Server.

MatrixStore Installation Videos? Are there any tutorials available for installing a MatrixStore cluster?
JonM replied on February 26, 2008 10:24 to the question "Can I use the Promise RAID array in a MatrixStore cluster?" in Object Matrix:
Interesting to compare the two RAID arrays to each other, promise has:
- 16 instead of 14 disks (and therefore capacity)
- true duality in the disk controller = failover
- 4Gbps fibre channel
Those are all easy to pinpoint. Long term durability of the product in typical Apple work environments... that's another thing, but for sure, Apple wont have chosen to work with this product without having first considered a lot of other products. It would be bad for Apple's name and it's reputation in the video production industry if this product didn't perform well.
Only time will tell; but I'd love to know exactly which products were in the beauty parade that Apple were considering from.

FAQ replied on February 25, 2008 22:22 to the question "Can I use the Promise RAID array in a MatrixStore cluster?" in Object Matrix:
Yes Indeed.
Whilst the Promise array does not share the looks of the Xserve RAID it provides more for less in terms of functionality and capacity.
It does not matter to MatrixStore what disk is attached to the Xserve as long as it appears as a volume in the Mac OS. End of.
Ideally organisations buying into the Promise technology will roll out their Xserve RAID units from the SAN and into a MatrixStore archive.
I really do hope they work on those looks...
