Versioning is a good idea... we plan to have that feature some time soon.
About upgrading a file in slideshare, just two things are affected - any slidecast and/or comments associated with the slideshow. Rest everything remains same - views, commnets, favorites, embeds etc.
Comments getting deleted when we replace the file is something that we plan to solve soon.

Upgrade a slideHello,
upgrade a slide is normal also after few years. You make a new presentation in a new place, change the first with the new data and the old pages with news.
The problem is that when you upgrade a slide in slideshare you loose everything.
Why?
A possible feature is the possibility to have a slide history e.g. version 1.0, 1.1, ..., 2.0 ...
I hope this is for you a good a idea.
For me it will be a great feature ;)

Hmm, that should not be the case. You should not need to join your group (since you become the admin/owner) when you create it. Are you sure you are logged into SlideShare? When logged in - you will see a a "Discussions" tab with a "Add a new topic" link.
Please let me know what you see and post a screenshot if possible. Also, what Operating System / browser are you using?
