That seems really strange that this "wouldn't be near the top of the list". I would definitely move to Xmarks -- I went so far as to export all my Delicious bookmarks, and have just spent two hours trying to figure out how to actually get the tags to work. None of the workarounds that I've been able to find -- like using Flock or that site that merges Firefox JSONs with a Delicious export -- seem to work for me, so I'm just not going to be able to switch to you.
Delicious has got a huge user base of people like me, who have a _lot_ of tagged bookmarks tied up in their DB, but who are tired of waiting for new features, and don't really use the social part. If you're looking to grow your user base, it's hard to imagine a quicker way to convince a ton of power users to come over.
That's really not a priority for you guys?-

A comment on the question "Can Gmail offer an LDAP service so that when I use Apple Mail, I get contact suggestions?" in Google:
Well, that's all well and good for anyone who happens to be using OS X, but there are a lot of reasons why other folks would still really like to have LDAP access. – LairBob, on September 01, 2009 16:55

There's apparently an opensource product called "GCalDaemon" that will create an offline copy of your Gmail Calendar, but also give you LDAP access to a local copy of your Gmail address book:

(It's definitely not simple to install, but people seem to like it once they have.) Here's a LifeHacker overview:

(By the way, I _totally_ second a vote for native LDAP access to Gmail contacts. Seems like a logical, pretty obvious extension after IMAP.)-
