uzzer shared an idea in Opera on September 03, 2008 09:13:
Google Chrome on the stageGoogle just introduced it's own browser Google Chrome. I wondered at first why have they deciced to make their own browser given the fierce competition (or maybe not so fierce given that latest versions of Opera and FF which both brought nothing new except bags of bugs...) but my first impression was positive. In Google Chrome I saw for the first time that blue bar with the title of twe window and the minimize/ resize/ close buttons cut out! It is completely useless and takes up screen space.
This thing by itself doesn't make a great browser but it might be a sign that somebody cares to make such. Opera, don't be waiting, cut the useless bar.
Update: I see that Avant Browser and Maxthon have also dealt well with the dumb title bar. They also have a minimize to tray button (next to "close") which Opera doesn't have!

LiveInk and software visual interface? Can LiveInk's research be applied into web design usability? E.g. things like how the menus on a web page should be placed on the screen. We are all used to seeing menus in linear forms but is this the most convenient placement for the human vision? I've seen menus placed in zig-zags or in circles (see the picture below) but I think those were made for artistic rather than usability purposes. Any comments?

where is spreadopera.com...As far as I learned, the spreadfirefox.com analogue for Opera is the site http://my.opera.com/chooseopera. But it doesn't really look attractive, beginning with its domain and ending with the lack of public space (e.g. a wiki) for uploads. If I want to upload a banner advertising Opera where am I supposed to upload it? The most pitiable thing is that the site itself has not made it in its own promotion! There is no link to it on Opera's homepage...

An idea to promote OperaHave you ever happened to need to transfer a large file over the net to a particular person? I have and I must admit it is not such an easy task as it seems. Especially if your connection tends to stop from time to time...
Skype, ICQ and other IM clients do not have a function to continue a transfer from where it stopped. You may be sending a 1GB file, the end of the transfer may be approaching, but then then your are suddenly disconnected and oh, s*it! Popular file storage servers are not a solution for the same reason. File sharing applications such as DC++ or eMule support pausing of transfers but they require complicated changes of settings to work as a file transfer application between two users only.
Firefox once had a beautiful extension for this called AllPeers. It is defunct now, which is really pity because it was a very promising and well designed piece of software. Anyway, the point is, this tiny extension made me use FF quite often even though I was (and still am) an Opera follower. Moreover, it made IE users take a look at FF, willy-nilly. "You wanna see that great video I made last holiday, with us on it - well, the only reliable way to send it over is Allpeers. Allpeers is an extension for FF, so get FF". Pure viral marketing, isn't it! And mind you, those were users who wouldn't otherwise care to switch to something better than IE.
It's a great chance for Opera to make more people see and pay attention to its advantages, don't you think? After all Microsoft has a large market share for IE because it's bundled with Windows; why not use the same tactic and bundle a file transfer application into Opera? In the first case you have a crappy product bundled with an awful operating system, in the second case you'd have a terrific application bundled with an excellent browser.

Hovering wouldn't let me see the information for all products at once. I would have to hover the cursor over single icon whereas in a tag cloud I can see the information for all those icons with one glance.
By the way I've stumbled upon an interesting suggestion regarding tags and hierarchical categories. It was given for a wiki platform but it could be an interesting point for Wakoopa, too. Here it is: http://community.wikidot.com/forum/t-... [Forum » Wikidot features and bugs / New features and ideas » Hierarchial Tags].

Wakoopa as a software update notifierWhat about the possibility to make Wakoopa a software update scanner, as well? There are not many programs for this purpose and few of them are work well. Wakoopa may become the long waited solution.
Ananda Sim replied on August 23, 2008 10:31 to the question "tab bar for Word 2007" in Microsoft Corporation:
The Tab Bar interface is way later than the original Office design. "Classic" Office used an MDI interface in Windows 3.x - each document was in a window within the big window for the main program. Then IE 3.0 came out and people asked "why not SDI?" So, Office programs started littering the Windows Task Bar with one panel per document. Frontpage started having a tab bar before Microsoft gave up on it. But it was easier to modify because it was a simpler program.
In the meantime, we've often used Ctrl+F6 to switch between documents. Another technique is to use the Switch Windows command - I was just training a class and introduced the idea that they could put the Switch Windows command in the QAT (Quick Access Toolbar).
I'll write up that tip soon on my Office blog

Scott finished his work on this a while back, but there was some integration work that we had to take care of before we could launch it. I'm happy to say that the final pieces are in place and you'll have OpenID (and Windows LiveID) support later tonight or tomorrow!
Thanks everyone for your patience on this one.
Three cheers for scott! \o/ \o/ \o/

I use to love FF until 3.0 came out. I had some many problems with the browser that I finally tried to uninstall it and I couldn't do it. Due to a few other issues that came later, I finally did a complete system restore and even though I don't care for IE, I don't want to face the same problems with FF 3.0 again. Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't there a lot of bug's in 3.0?
