The recently launched Summize Twitter Search is also a great alternative.
You can filter results by language, by sender, by recipient, and more...

The other alternative is to use Tweetscan. This service lets you specify up to five keywords that you want to track.
It will then email the search results for these keywords to you on a daily or weekly basis.

A quick update on this for the people following. In response to grudknows, Twitter has to deal with a lot of technological "strain" to say the least due to all the requests that come in every minute. Adding features isn't always a simple "we can build it" answer, so it takes some logistical thinking.
What I've been doing to treat tracking as something I can go back and look through, is to set up my notifications through Gtalk. Then, I can leave my IM on and search Gmail whenever I want for the specific terms I'm tracking.
In addition, spoke with Blaine from Twitter tonight, he recommends setting up an additional Twitter account that you use *just* for tracking if you feel overwhelmed otherwise.

Goodness yes. I can't think of anything more annoying that getting a constant stream of text messages when I'm out and about - but like the idea of being able to send updates via phone and love the idea of tracking certain keywords and being able to look through them on the web as time allows. I don't understand why the track feature isn't available via the web - you'd think that Twitter would try to make features available across technologies as much as possible to maximise usage and allow users to use Twitter in the best way for them.

The Terraminds search engine is a poor-man's unsupported web track.

Has RSS feeds too.
