4d asked a question in Hubdub on June 04, 2009 05:29:
is at&t blocking hubdub?i'm on a laptop atm and using an at&t service...the very first time i went to the regular hubdub site it let me thru, but then went dead after like the second page i went to. now, it keeps telling me either the connection with the server was reset or that the server is taking too long to respond. is this a problem concerning at&t or the hubdub site?

i had this problem before too kruijs...try this...wager on a Q, then go to "all predictions" on the Q screen and check the box to show on profile....place a second wager and do the same thing....after the box is checked and the Q screen has reset, cash in the second wager(do not cash in the very first bet) and then place a third wager....when u go back to "all predictions" on the Q screen, it should be showing publicly...if the box is checked by default then all future predictions should also be public, if the box is not checked, check it, then cash that prediction in and place another wager...eventually, your second wager will have the box checked by default ...while i know this is a round-about way to do this and i no longer show all my predictions, but i did before and this is what worked for me.-

it seemed strange to me that one would be voided but not the other...i was curious as to whether the people(was worded as multiple) who complained about the original Q had also wagered on the second one and in effect gamed it but i'm always accusing people of gaming so whatever....americans just have too many hangups about sex i think...i was just making fun of my friend the other day because she has no problem letting her 10 yo son watch i am legend, but god forbid that he should see a little skin

anyone who wants a smaller thread, AAA started one at http://getsatisfaction.com/hubdub/top...
what does everyone think about this: everyone gets scaled by a factor of 20....this will put crudsy at about 30k and everyone below 1,000 gets pushed up to 1,000....but i think we still have to save that money somewhere where it can be tapped if you go broke because i know if i was crudsy and went broke like a month into the quarter because i got down-scaled i proly wouldn't come back after a two month wait for the end of the quarter...or even 10, that would put him at 60,000

no dude, it's a good idea, actually i think its proly what they're going to have to go with...and then anyone below $1,000 would get pushed up to 1,000....if divided by 20 that will give crudsy like 30,000, but i think they'd have to keep those winnings somewhere so that those people could get it if they NEEDED it to stay in the game...i think that's the best option really...every three months, divide everyone by 20 push up all people who are below 1,000

i dunno...someone mentioned starting the noobs out at 10k instead of 1k....i had the idea of if you went broke, still being able to access the old quarterly gain, you earned why lose it every 3 months?...the top players aren't going to want to change their betting habits as drastically as hubdub's plan calls for...one of the admin's remarked about a future possibility of pimping out your profile based on old winnings, but that still doesn't take into account what if they go broke plus future functionality is not a substitute for lost playing ability...

ok, from what i understand of the hubdub plan, it's to basically take a snapshot of everyone's winnings and put it on a board, then scale all scores(cash+predictions) down to either 1k, 2k, 5k, or 20k and to continue this every quarter...long term predictions would definitely suffer under this plan as most people would not hold their money in a market that was long lasting and subject their wager to multiple rescaling...also, if some of the better predictors happened to have a bad week right after the reset it is easy to see them going broke and would have no access to their previous winnings which could cause some people to leave...scaling down predictions in open markets by differing amounts would also seem to cause problems in the odds of those questions....if we scale down by the same amount, say a factor of 100 for everyone this would seem to be more stable, but then simply penalizes the better predictors for the sake of making it easier to catch them-
