Rael Dornfest asked a question in I want Sandy on December 03, 2008 20:27:
I want Sandy Export availableHowdy, folks.
With Sandy's impending shut-down, we've added a new feature to the site: Export.
To make your stuff portable and importable, Sandy will gather all of your appointments, to-dos, contacts, bookmarks, lists, and notes into 6 standards-based files: iCalendar for appointments and to-dos, vCard for contacts, and plain text for notes, lists, and bookmarks.
You can download all of your stuff and import it into an alternate calendar, to-do list, contact management or note-taking application.
You'll also be provided a person-readable text file containing everything you've had Sandy remember for you. (Open it in your favorite text editor (Notepad, TextEdit, Word, et al) or your Web browser.)
You'll find an Export link at the top of every page of the site, as a new tab in the Settings [http://iwantsandy.com/settings], or you can jump directly to the Export page at: http://iwantsandy.com/export
Best,
Rael

Hi,
This appears to be an old topic that has been bumped back up due to the impending shut-down of our I want Sandy and Stikkit services.
When Sandy and Stikkit are shut down — after export functionality has been made available for both, mind — we'll be erasing all of your data, carefully scrubbing all our main and backup storage systems.

I've just about completed testing — with the help of Dave, Randall, and other friends of Sandy — and expect to make Sandy's export functionality available to all tomorrow (Tuesday) evening. – Rael Dornfest, on December 02, 2008 06:23

Of course! I was getting Sandy's export done first since that's the majority of the folks and then converting that over for Stikkit. – Rael Dornfest, on December 01, 2008 21:04

Hi folks.
I just arrived back home in Portland from a family Thanksgiving road-trip to the Bay Area and will be responding to the new comments posted tomorrow.
I just wanted to provide a quick update on the export functionality I've been finishing off over the past few days.
From the announcement I just posted at http://getsatisfaction.com/iwantsandy...:

Hi folks.
I hope those of you in the US are having a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend and taking the time to relax and catch up with your family and friends.
I just wanted to provide a quick status update on the work I've been doing over the past couple of days...
I've just all-but-finished a complete export system for Sandy — one that'll export all of your appointments as .ics (iCalendar), to-dos as vtodo .ics (iCalendar), contacts as vcard, and bookmarks, lists, and notes as text. There will be an additional "Everything" link that leads to a plain text file containing a personal-readable copy of all you've asked Sandy to remember for you and remind you about.
I'm putting the finishing touches on the system and testing it (and will be passing it to our "deputies" here on Get Satisfaction to give it a whirl before pushing it live for everyone.
Have a good rest of the Thanksgiving holiday. I'll check back in tomorrow and provide further updates as I make progress on this.
All the best,
Rael
