We're definitely thinking about the same things. We could also use that extra subdomain info to help organize or tag things. For example, you could do amazon@books.yourname.otherinbox.com and itunes@music.yourname.otherinbox.com.

As you said, its much easier for us to do this with yourname.otherinbox.com because we control the DNS. This would require advanced MX record setup for custom domains.

I only had a problem with an update not pushing to YouAre; everything else seems to have worked. The next ping went through, so I don't know what the problem was.

I've seen occasional dropped pings to one of the half-dozen services I post to in the past. Usually it's just one service that doesn't post, while the text goes to everywhere else just fine.
