A comment on the question "LinkedIn Downgrade Policy - not cool" in LinkedIn:
I have also faced the same issue multiple times .. Are you telling me that Linkedin does'nt have the resources to build a page to downgrade online ?? or is it just another method to rip customers without delivering value ?? – Vishal, on October 10, 2008 07:07

Adam, I've followed your instructions in August, September and today. I've spent a total of 2 hours on the phone with Advertising Services and My Credit Card company to dispute the charges. I love the basic service, but this is really poor customer service. Please prioritize automated downgrades higher on the product roadmap. Also, consider adding more value or a clear description of the value proposition. Many of us probably signed up to try it, thinking "I'll just cancel it if I don't like it." – sbw99, on October 05, 2008 01:55

I have had my account restricted for 3 weeks now, i have sent at least 8 e-mails and left numerous voice mails on the customer service number and have not had one single e-mail or call back, there are 4 people in my office who are having the same problem. Its just a shame as we were considering going for the premium package and advertising on the site but we can not commit to a site with such poor customer service.
Is there anybody out there who can help me?

A comment on the problem "Why does LinkedIn think it's OK to trick me into spamming my entire Gmail address book?" in LinkedIn:
This exact thing just happened to me too. I went through and carefully unselected everyone I did not want to send an invitation too. I hit send and nothing happened. I too hit send again and my whole list went. I am totally embarrassed! Now I am painfully going through and withdrawing the invitations, but they have all received the e-mail, so I feel stupid. What a spam job! – redrunner, on September 14, 2008 21:44

According to some text somewhere on LinkedIn, it says that when you click withdraw, the recipient DOES NOT receive any email whatsoever, it just seems to prevent them from then accepting the invitation once its withdrawn. – ak131, on September 11, 2008 12:33

Just wanted to keep the group updated. This problem still exists. I still have to go to Account Settings, Emails, and confirm my email address each and everytime I log into LinkedIn in order to accept my invites. I wonder how many other users are having this same issue and are not proactive in letting LinkedIn know. They are simply choosing to not use LinkedIn anymore. I have personally heard that from 5 people I know. Again, frustrating.

My crystal ball says it will return. Sometime in the future, next week, next month, or next year, a few more of those "spammed by LinkedIn" people will turn down the invitations, and you'll be back with the same problem.
I know because it's happened to me several times, usually when someone decides to reject an invitation from over a year ago that they just stumbled across.
The REAL problem here is that when you get an invitation from someone on LinkedIn, your only options are to accept it, or to "decline with prejudice" declaring the sender a spammer. There needs to be a "Thanks but no thanks" option. And it needs to be made clear that when declining an invitation, the two options are very different, and one carries serious negative repercussions.
Alternately, when someone declines an invitation, they should get a second question, "Do you want to report this person for spam / abuse", and not count these unless they chose that option.

Steve:
When I try and invite someone to link with me becuase we are a member of the same group. It demands an email address. Usually LInkediN uses are allowed to inid\cate that they know or are inviting someone to link due to being members of the same group..In this case it's a group I created on Linkedin.
when i went to do it I got the old you are prevented from doing this becuase to many people have indicated they don't know you. If you contact custom,er service etc.. promise not to do it again etc..
This all a result of my using the Linkedin tool that reads my email addresses out my outlook. I let it do that and mistakenly allowed it to invite everyone. there was allot more then I thought in that list.
I got the first message like almost a year ago. I contacted customer service, then nothing happens and I complained on a blog. someone told me it was taken care of and now almost a year later I still see it and apparently you don't see a problem, on my account.
I have probably only used the invite feature once or twice since I got the waring after making the mistake of letting it send to everyone in my outlook.
I don't know what to do. It's an important tool but if I can't do something and the site owners or employees can't find it/ I'm wondering how I deal with this. I comp-lied with your first request and never invited anyone outside of who I knew would accept. I have three groups and I pay for the service.
I would really like to have an unrestricted account and it's frustrating that you can';t find where it's happening. thanks for your help but I'm still peeved off over this.
Thanks for trying though.
Mark

Moderated discussions are certainly under consideration, but there are a number of high priority features we need to do. If you're interested in discussing ways to improve LinkedIn Groups as well as discussing best practices for managing a group on LinkedIn, we've created a LinkedIn Groups Product Forum to continue the discussion.
