I found the offending file: the problem is likely related to the size of the file. It was 236mb (188K lines)! The actual content wasn't anything extraordinary. I can send the file if you wish, it's 52 mb zipped, but you can probably make one yourself to test. Let me know if you want the file...

Wow, this works for me!!!

This is somewhat inconvenient, as I use my desktop as a visual "todo" list of sorts (normally organized into different piles and areas, not shown in my screen above), and many of the things I need to do are stored in .txt files.

Perhaps a future version of BumpTop will either fix the problem properly or allow at least a flag to turn off sticky note processing of text files (or use a different extension for sticky notes than .txt). But, this will at least allow me to play with BumpTop for the moment.

I'm extremely motivated to get this problem solved, as it's persisted since Beta version and keeps me from being able to use bumptop at all (it crashes every time on startup). If an engineer thinks they would learn something by poking around my system, I'd be happy to facilitate a Webex-style screensharing session to help debug. Pretty standard system: Lenovo Thinkpad, Windows XP, nothing too out of the ordinary...
