This is probably my biggest annoyance with Twitter right now. I track the name of the town where I live - but the surname of one of the biggest sports stars in this country is the same as my town's name. If there's a game on involving his team, I have to turn notifications off for hours before the game, as well as during the game, in order to avoid using up my sms allowance with tweets from media and fans. I tried blocking the sites those notifications come from, but they still arrive, so it's pointless. There must be many Twitter users in similar situations; this needs to be addressed. I can think of absolutely no logical reason for allowing notifications from blocked users, no matter what words they use in their tweets.

To elaborate on this a bit, my main issue with tracking is that you get these legitimate users who post a massive amount of tweets about a given thing. I have found this to be true with trying to track a city (like Santa Cruz or Berkeley) and getting notices for every open house in those cities from real estate twitterbots.
It would be really helpful to block folks like that, since it actually helps everyone find the info the want, thus making Twitter a better service.

Try sending "track" alone from your phone. It will return a list of all the things you're tracking - like ibroadfo says, if you're tracking the same thing twice, you'll get two messages.
I've filed a bug - we're working on some things that will make this easier, but it will probably be a little bit before we fix it. In the meantime, just make sure you're not tracking the same thing twice.

I get this when an update matches two tracked terms; for example, I track "ruby" and "rails", so when there's an update that talks about "ruby on rails", I get it twice. Is this the same problem you have, or something different?
As a side issue, this should probably get fixed before the weekly uk sms limits come into place...-
