Hi Simon
Regardless of whether its publicly available today, please email sophie@clearleft.com and she'll be able to send you an updated version by email.
thanks,

Sounds great Simon.
We hope to have a new version out later this week. Although it won't have batch export yet, it will have about a 25% reduction in export time, as well as fixing the crashing bug some people have reported. Should be available on Thursday via the site, or an automatic software update if you've already downloaded Silverback.

Hi Simon
Batch export isn't in the version 1.0 release, but you're right that it would be a very helpful addition and we're already working on it for a software update coming your way soon!
It's always really helpful to get insight into how people are using Silverback, so please keep the ideas like this coming - we're really keen to improve the software based on the feedback we receive.
cheers,
Paul

HI Alex.
We're working on the next release of Silverback at the moment, and looking to squash these bugs. Did you have any more progress on this?
Regarding the blank 'New Project' screen that you took a screenshot of, try running this in the Terminal to reset Silverback's preferences, and try again to see if that solves the problem for you:
defaults delete com.clearleft.Silverback

Paul

Hi Ponderopus
We haven't done extensive testing in Parallels, but in the testing we have done we haven't come across problems. Here's a video clip we've found of someone running Silverback in Parallels successfully.

If you no longer need a session at all (and never will do again), highlighting it and pressing the delete/backspace key or the '-' button at the bottom of the sessions pane will delete that session from Silverback and move all that session's data to the Trash (in the Finder). Empty the Trash, and it's all gone!
Hope that helps.
Nice Paul replied on August 05, 2008 17:15 to the problem "No Sound!!" in Clearleft:
Thanks for your patience waiting for me to get back to you.
Assuming that sound from other software is working fine...
Please do a Spotlight search for VideoCapture.mov - these are the iSight source videos before they are compiled during the Silverback export. Play one of these back in Quicktime - does it have any sound? This will help us determine if the problem occurs during recording or during export.
Also, do you have any audio extensions installed, like SoundFlower?
Sometimes these extensions are installed by other programs - if you look in the Audio System Preferences, in the Input and Output tabs, do you see any additional devices, apart from your Internal Microphone/Line In/Speakers listed?
thanks,
Paul

Thanks for the link to Testuff, I personally haven't come across it - I'll share it round and ask some of the other guys'n'gals here.
I see your problem with Silverback (thanks for the screenshot). At that stage, the 'Hooray' panel should only take up the bottom right corner, revealing a sessions list above it. You should only see it like this with the gorilla icon, when you first launch the app. Does it look like this when you begin every new project? Presumably when you add new sessions, the session list becomes visible?
I'll raise this bug with our developer and get back to you.

Hi Alex
Glad you like Silverback, and thanks for your feedback.
1.) The 'New Session' button is in the top right corner of the application, above the message which says "click the new session button above". There are + / - buttons in the bottom bar for those who are familiar with that Apple UI standard, but when we usability tested the appication many people didn't realise what they did or how to start a new session, so we added the labeled buttons at the top. We'll look into adding tooltips in the next product update.
2.) The wording and explanation of tasks is very subjective, and should be handled verbally by a test moderator/facilitator on a case-by-case basis, at the start of each task. That gives you the freedom to adjust each task based on a participant's behaviour, during the test. Participants should be reassured that it's the software/website that's being tested, and not their ability - my fear would be that giving them a formal checklist to complete (on screen or written down) would put them on edge, as it would feel like a test, leading to skewed results.
thanks,
Paul

Thanks for the great suggestion, Ward. I have suggested this feature myself and we're considering it for a future product update.
The hurdle to overcome is that Projects are already split into Sessions (presumably one session per user), and this would mean further splitting each session into several clips. From a features point of view, I really like it, but from an application information architecture point of view it does add a layer of complexity that is currently blissfully absent in the app.
