Make 'trends and news' optional or closeableI know I'm an old fuddy duddy, but I don't want to see trending topics all the time. (Alternately, it would be hella cool to see just trending topics among those I follow, but that sounds like a bit of a performance challenge to pull off).

MetaGrrrl asked a question in The Omni Group on April 13, 2009 00:31:
Can the overall category "Library" be renamed? Can the Library be renamed? I want to call it Everything since I have Library, like, y'know, the library, as a context.
(Apparently this is a long-standing concern
http://forums.omnigroup.com/showthrea...
but as far as I can see - the official forums are a bit of a hassle to use - there's never been a response to the simple question "Can you change the label 'Library'?")

If you get The Dreaded Squeak, I have the cure! Ace Hardware & presumably others sell a little plastic container of silicone plumbers grease. It's cheap and you just need a dab. Here's what it looks like:
http://www.acehardware.com/product/in...
San Franciscans, you can get it at Cole Hardware on 4th Street between Mission & Market.

Timbuk2 store, you need to go spend the under $5 to get one of these little jars - you won't need the 12-pack I linked, just a dab'll do ya. This is such a silly thing to have so many people so irked at you about. – MetaGrrrl, on March 25, 2009 17:59

Ah, I thought you were complaining about the Feedback link from Foursquare's site rather than reporting a Get Satisfaction issue in the Foursquare forum (which does as you note make some sense because support is part of a service).
I apologize for reading a little hastily and for carrying over my impression of your overall Foursquare issues from your other posts into this specific issue.
I took a look for other reports of this problem and only found two, so it seems as though you ran into a bug rather than a crappy design. On the ones I found Eric from Get Satisfaction said:
"Very sorry to hear this. Did you get any specific errors? Were you by any chance using OpenID to sign in?"
As a long-time user of Get Satisfaction, I can say that I have received absolutely no spam from them. You've got nothing to worry about on that front, as the company-customer pact linked at the bottom of the page reinforces.
I'll also say that I love having a single account with a company with Get Satisfaction's privacy policies and the opportunity to have customer-customer conversations as well as get company support about any products I use. So, yes, it's an additional account beyond Foursquare, but it is one which will likely come in handy for things with other companies.

Wow, Walter, I'm just some other person standing around near the customer service counter with you. No reason to go off on me.
If you re-read my message, you might see that what I'm suggesting is that the kind of complete consideration of ALL parts of the user experience is something that you may find lacking in a beta product.
My impression is that you're a busy person for which Foursquare may not be right until it's progressed a little farther. I've been part of a lot of betas and it may take a while for things to get shaken down enough to please someone who's very particular about the services they use.

It would also be great if the folks at the store in Hayes Valley could solve this problem if you dropped in. They'd never even heard of it. (Maybe have staff read the Get Satisfaction pages, hmm?)
Irked that I need to find a hardware store with plumber's silicone grease to try to solve this myself. Sending in the bag if there's an easier solution is unattractive.
