This should unlink the IM account from your old twitter account and allow you to set it up under devices. Hope this helps.

If you're wondering why your updates aren't showing up in the public timeline http://twitter.com/public_timeline keep in mind that there are probably tens of thousands of public updates per hour on twitter, and by the time you check the public timeline page your update has moved off the page.

One way would be to create a dummy twitter account, and using Twitterfeed http://twitterfeed.com/ setup a twitter feed to the new twitter account using the RSS from the blog you want to read. I do something similar with my facebook friend status updates.
