Is there some way to auto-convert smart quotes and other characters into HTML friendly text?I pulled from Word and got all these weird characters when viewing the rendered HTML in Firefox. I'm hoping Macromates has a function that can make them right in one fell swoop.

When's the next version of OS X coming out?I heard something about October 2007... Is that true? Why do I have to wait so long?

How do you add more RAM to the Macbook Pro?It seems they keep changing the location and steps for getting under the hood of these laptops. So confusing!

Leopard (the upcoming OS X) is rehauling the dock altogether. You'll like it--there's transparent dock, but even more importantly for those of us who save everything to the desktop only to deal with big messes later, it has "Stacks." These are smart piles of these desktop files that uncollapse upon rollover. Here's a screenshot:
Percolater asked a question in EFF on June 14, 2007 06:43:
What's the difference between the EFF and the ACLU?They both seem to focus on free speech rights. I get that the EFF is focused more on how these rights apply to technology, but why doesn't the ACLU do this kind of advocacy as a part of their work? What projects do the EFF do that the ACLU wouldn't?

Make it easy to find friends. It's very hard to find people I know are on the system. A people search feature would be nice. Whadya say Twitter peeps?

FlickrExport has saved me many hours!Just wanted to say thanks for building an awesome product. It's made my whole photography hobby so much more enjoyable and seamless. I can't believe Apple doesn't integrate this directly into iPhoto.
Keep it up!

What factors determine whether something is a valid topic for Wikipedia?I've had some pretty well-known friends have articles about them or their projects deleted. Can someone explain why some things are valid and others are not?

Out of sync "time ago" stamps on topic pageThe Ajax updates are the cause of this problem. I added one response, then another. THe I edited the second response, leading to the time ago stamp showing the latest reply originating earlier than the previous reply. Not exactly serious, but worth pointing out.

"The Full Conversation" title appears even when there's no conversationPerhaps this should say something like "Be the first to reply to this topic" or similar

Topic count on products is wrong in certain instancesAfter I add a topic with an associated product I get to the new topic page with the product listed in the left-hand column. Only the topic count for that product doesn't include the new topic in it. It doesn't reflect the addition of the new topic.

Is there an easy way to download songs from my ipod to any other Mac?Of course I can download stuff *to* my ipod, but it seems like I should be able to transfer media from my ipod to other computers.

My financial app to belittle me when I spend too much on beer.Oh you know, it could call me a drunk or warn me I'll end up just like my good-for-nothing father. It's going to take something on this order to get me to change my hedonistic ways.
Help me, Mint, you're my only hope!

Percolater replied on June 05, 2007 17:50 to the question "What is the best way to protect yourself from patent infingement claims besides getting a software patent?" in EFF:
In theory, other companies can only get patents if they can prove that the idea is truly novel. In practice, software ideas are vague and prior art searches easily miss what in hindsight might be clear precedents. The result is that plenty of software patents go through, giving their holders an unfair advantage, and once gotten it's a lot harder to fight them unless you have a similarly broad/vague patent to counter-license to them.
It sucks, but it's the system we have.
