A comment on the idea "Broadcast a message needs a facelift" in Ning:
Good point. I hadn't thought of this, but it would be nice if there was an easy way for people to reply. – Andrew Shuttleworth, on April 22, 2009 07:41

Andrew Shuttleworth asked a question in Ning on April 10, 2009 16:23:
Allowing people to leave comments without registeringOver at www.mobileinjapan.com, we are using our site as a public news and information site as well as a community site.
It was recently brought to our attention (*) that it would be useful for non-registered people to be able to comment on blog posts. I was first against the idea as I thought about the spam, but then I realized that we do want to get comments from people who for whatever reason may only visit the site once or occasionally. Most blogs, even the major ones, just require a name and email address and optionally a URL. If necessary a captcha could be added to this list.
From our perspective it would increase the content, value and traffic of the network if people could comment on blog and forum posts without having to register.

I found a solution. Posting to FriendFeed and getting FriendFeed to post to Twitter works. HelloTxt say they are working on a solution: http://twitter.com/htxt/statuses/1456...

Andrew Shuttleworth replied on March 17, 2009 00:48 to the problem "No Auto Linking of URLS in Blog Comments" in Ning:
Some of the other parts of Ning (from memory, the forums and group discussions) also have an editor with link option, but actually it's not necessary to manually do the link as URLs are auto-linked.
This behavior is inconsistent so confusing. Would much prefer to have auto-linking.
Anyway - not such a big issue.

No Auto Linking of URLS in Blog CommentsOn other parts of the site URLs seemed to be auto-linked, but not in blog comments. Is this a spam prevention measure or just an oversight. It's confusing to have an inconsistent policy, especially as blog comments can't be edited.
Andrew Shuttleworth reported a problem in Ning on February 20, 2009 10:56:
Adding Text and RSS to Group Page - Problem with rightsEven as an Administrator of a Group I cannot add Text or RSS feeds to the Group page. I either have to be owner or have to set up a new role.
I want to appoint Admins to different Groups and don't want to have to mess around with Roles every time.
Is this a bug or by design?
Andrew Shuttleworth replied on February 12, 2009 09:10 to the idea "Email Digests" in Ning:
Wow. Looks like I spoke too soon! There is actually a 'Notify' link at the bottom of the Forums and Group discussions pages e.g.
http://www.tokyo2point0.net/forum
http://www.tokyo2point0.net/group/pyt...
I also see that you are automatically subscribed to some sort of notifications when you join a group. Will wait to see what I receive.
I wonder if these features were added with the recent updates???
I think these settings should be integrated into the Email Settings page as it's too easy for users to miss:

As an aside, it also looks like there's move towards merging groups discussions and forums going on. Look forward to seeing progress on this front too.-
