there are 2 ways. First you can dial your home phone and when the voice mail picks up hit '#' and then your password.
Alternatively you can login to smartzone email and listed to it online. Just login with your account and click 'email' you will see a voicemail count. If you are using a secondary account with restricted rights (like one setup for a kid) you won't be able to hear messages. Main accounts can.

You callers can hit '1' to bypass the greeting message.
We are working to enable the '*' key for this purpose and to update our documentation. For now you can find documentation for the system here:
