A comment on the problem "Slow page loads - graceful degradation?" in quub:

Don - thanks for the reply - I'm running WinXP Pro on Firefox, on a Dell Latitude D800. It's about 5 years old, so it's a single core, 1.7 GHz processor with 1 GB of RAM. Having the flash shut down after 10 seconds seems like a good computation-saver. I think my computer may have just been overloaded with a couple of other apps at the same time. Just wanted to let you all in on a little peek at how older systems handle the site. Thanks for taking the time! Looking forward to playing around with it more! – Adam, on May 05, 2009 17:08

Slow page loads - graceful degradation?
The page seems to take a long time to load, and seems pretty computationally expensive to run. My laptop fan is going nuts, and the animations aren't very smooth. I wonder if there are ways to speed up the page - perhaps sequential loading of various parts? Or maybe auto-detection of connection speed and computer capabilities combined with graceful degradation of features? (i.e., if the computer is too slow, no more animation of floating bubbles, if the connection is too slow, load less data, etc.)
