Hi Andrei,
Thank you for your feedback regarding the MOBI versions of Real World Haskell and Learning GNU Emacs. I agree that the formatting in the TOC and the bulleted lists could be improved. We're continuing to investigate ways to improve all of our mobile formats, and the things that you mentioned are among the top priorities for presentation on the Kindle.
Thanks again,
Adam

Very nice, Trustin, and thanks for the suggestion. I did the same thing over the weekend using DejaVu Sans Mono. I am planning to implement this soon.
By the way, you should also add the font files to the OPF manifest. See Liza Daly's excellent tutorial.

Hi Trustin,
Thanks for reporting this problem. Good timing, because I was just testing this yesterday. It's not really a bug so much as incomplete CSS in the ePub file. This is a simple fix to the CSS that we are implementing soon. I will see that a new version of this title is released.
Thanks,

Adam Witwer replied on September 18, 2009 17:51 to the problem "Missing Tip / Caution icons in ePub files" in O'Reilly Media:
Hi Trustin,
Thanks for noticing and writing about the icons. We don't include them in the ePub versions of our books. Due to the variability of ePub readers, we generally try to keep the presentation simple. For the notes/icons, we opted for a simple header (Note/Tip/Warning) above an indented paragraph. The bear trap and paw print icons can still be found in the print and PDF versions of the text.
Thanks again,
Adam Witwer

Adam Witwer replied on March 20, 2009 14:01 to the question "Download entire book as pdf only sometimes an option?" in O'Reilly Media:
Hi mikeh,
Perl Best Practices is still set up as a full-book PDF download for 16 tokens. There are a couple of reasons why you may not be seeing the option to download the PDF. First, and this one is pretty obvious but it never hurts to check, you have to be logged in to see the option to download the full-book. If you're not logged in, the button won't appear. If you are logged in but you're still not seeing the button above the TOC on the left side of the screen, then the problem is with your account. In that case, I will refer you to customer service at Safari (customer-service@safari.com). I would forward your request on myself, but I don't know your username and contact info. Safari customer service is generally very responsive to these type of problems, so they'll help you figure out what is wrong.
Thanks,

Hi Tali,
Thanks for the helpful link. In general, as of right now, our PDFs for sale on oreilly.com include the following features, which help with accessibility:
* Fully searchable text
* Fonts that allow characters to be extracted to text
* No security that will interfere with assistive technology
We're continuing to investigate ways to improve our PDFs for accessibility.

Adam Witwer replied on January 22, 2008 22:57 to the problem "Many O'reilly books are seriously delayed (or never appear at all) in Safari Online Books." in O'Reilly Media:
Hi all,
I thought I'd follow up on this thread.
The titles that are mentioned above are now either on Safari or on the way in the next week or so, with the exception of Fonts & Encodings, and I'm working on a solution to that one. We managed to track down the files for some of the older titles (such as Building Extreme PCs). Other titles we had had the files all along but they were never converted for some reason or another. We're fixing that now. We definitely do not hold back hot titles intentionally.
In the past few months, we've worked to identify the kinds of things that delay publication on Safari, and we're taking steps to address those things. For example, at least two books mentioned here (Photoshop Lightroom and Creative Digital Darkroom) had tremendously large file sizes that slowed us down. That might seem like a bad excuse, but moving around and converting 10-15 GB of data for a single book can be a challenge, especially when using international vendors. We've discussed this problem with the production teams working on these graphic-heavy titles so that they can help by providing web-friendly files we can move around and post easier. We're also putting into place better scheduling and forecasting so that we can expect better turnaround times from the conversion houses (and titles most definitely will not be overlooked). And we've expanded the Safari production team (a new employee joined just this past week) to provide better coverage.
In the next two weeks, look for Oracle PL/SQL Best Practices 2E, Big Book of Windows Hacks, the Dynamic Learning CS3 books, Deke McClelland's latest One-on-One CS3 titles, Regular Expression Pocket Reference 2E, iPod: TMM 6E, Photoshop CS3 RAW, and more.
As for more recent titles, two of the four O'Reilly titles for January are posted on Safari (Wikipedia: TMM and The Ruby Programming Language), and the other two are on their way. Getting books on Safari as quickly as possible is high priority going forward in 2008.
So that's the update. I just wanted everyone to know that we did pay attention to the posts here, and we're taking appropriate action.
