A comment on the question "Twitter IM Status" in Twitter:
However, if what you're looking for is a way to update Twitter from IM, there are third-party services such as http://ping.fm or http://excla.im that provide this capability. – mdy, on October 10, 2008 00:28

Hello. Twitter says they currently have no timeframe for fixing IM (click here to see). – mdy, on October 10, 2008 00:04

If this were my problem to solve I'd look seriously at ejabberd as an IM interface to twitter. Fast, robust, scalable, distributed by design, plugin extension architecture. Perhaps they are... dunno. If they're not maybe it's the powerful but obscure erlang ejabberd is written in that's preventing them.
If you've not tried erlang, you should. It's free of saturated fats and good for the environment! (well... kinda)
Does anyone have insight regarding the solution the twitter crew is stewing for the IM interface brew?
I'd like to 2nd akent (above): It would be great to see an altered API or better yet, just reinstate twitterIM so that our twitbots can feel useful and get back to work without having to be rewritten.
Help prevent the global twitbot identity crisis epidemic and bring back twitterIM.

Clearly they are rewriting the whole thing from scratch... But who knows why it's taking so damn long... Check out this blog post about the original implementation of Twitter's IM interface, no wonder it didn't scale!

Come on people, you are not being very imaginative! I bet they integrate with Eye Phone and do something Snow Crash-ish:

i agree also, i seem to have problems understanding the purpose of bright kite, I have a blog, flickr account even tumblr account so why do i need bright kite to post images and notes? Intergrating other services sounds ideal, when I'm at an upcoming event bBK could be updated, when i post an image via shozu to flickr this could be tagged as a place i'm at also. I don't know i'm just trying to find a use of BK that's easy, doesn't need me to keep login in to a site to do things i do in other locations just so others know where i am.
sorry
