I'd like the Student Union to not email the same message twice - generally the first email is sent from su-members@mutelli.lincoln.ac.uk and then within minutes I get another copy from su-members-bounces@listserv.lincoln.a....
I'd like it if some idiot replies to a student union email it isn't then sent to every single students (such as messages like "please remove me from this list" which other people see who then also send a message to all of us saying "oh yeah please remove me from this list as well").
Finally I'd like you to disable the ability for marketers (read: students working at clubs and bars) who are promoting events to not be able to individually copy every single email address into an email so it takes forever to scroll down to get the actual message only to find it's one line saying "oh pretty please come to XYZ on Friday".
Much love,

Locked computing labsOn Sunday I went into MHT in the hope of working in the computing labs however they were physically locked (as opposed to the magnetic locks that our RFID cards open).
Wills the labs be locked every weekend or was this a one off? If they will be locked, why and where are we supposed to work instead?
Alex Bilbie replied on November 02, 2009 17:21 to the question "Can I get my student timetable in another format?" in University of Lincoln:
If you go to http://learninglab.lincoln.ac.uk/myti... you can use an experimental hack that will allow you to subscribe to your calendar in Google Calendar, iCal, Outlook 2007 and any other calendar app that supports the .ics format.
Very soon this will be an official hack.

Can I get my student timetable in another format?I use Google Calendar and was wondering if somehow I could import my student calendar into it without having to manually add all the lectures one by one.-

Blocked ports makes development difficultI went into MHT yesterday evening to get some development work done however I had to leave because I was unable to do any work due to some network (presumably security) settings.
I wanted to connect to a remote MySQL database (port 3306) using my database browser Sequel Pro however it was unable to connect due to the port being blocked. To overcome this I logged into my web hosts to use the web based PHPMyAdmin - or at least I would have done except port 2082 is also blocked.
Is there any chance these ports could be unblocked (even if it's just to the computer labs in MHT) so that students can carry out development work?

Alex Bilbie replied on October 05, 2009 17:32 to the idea "The SU Job Shop RSS feed" in University of Lincoln:
Hi Richard,
As Nick said above there aren't yet RSS feeds for jobs (yet you can download the jobs as a PDF for some inane reason). I will speak to the SU about this. If they aren't prepared to do it, then as a developer for the University I'll add it myself or I'll write a tool for doing this and put it on the Learning Landscape server.
Also worth mentioning is that I'm developing the University's main careers website - Opportunities@Lincoln - and there will be a generic RSS feed for all jobs or if you log into the site you'll be able to get an RSS feed/email alerts of jobs that are more relevant to you.

Alex Bilbie asked a question in University of Lincoln on September 11, 2009 14:45:
How can I stop people including me in giant mailing lists that are (incorrectly) sent to the entire student body?Occasionally someone sends an email that is sent to the entire student body, listening every student's name and email address in the to: field instead of the bcc: field. This is both a waste of University resources and a pain to get to the actual content of the email as you have to scroll through thousands of names and addresses.

The Student Union charged me £60 to attend the graduation ball and I'm really dissatisfiedLast night (10/09/09) I attended the graduation ball with some friends. My tickets for my partner and I cost me £60.
We arrived at the Engine Shed and joined the entry line. Now everyone in the que had a ticket and no-one was being searched on entry so in theory we should have got into the venue pretty quickly, yet there was a girl sat by herself at the door manually checking off every single ticket on a huge spreadsheet so we didn't get into the venue for over half an hour so my first question is was this checking process really necessary and if so why were there not several people doing this to speed up the que and get people inide so there weren't girls fainting in the que all night?
We entered the Engine Shed and no effort had been to decorate the place - so I'm beginning to wonder what my money has gone towards? There was a DJ who I believe was the guy who normally plays at Engine Shed events in term time - again, what has my money gone towards? There were a few fire eaters and jugglers who were there but they really weren't anything special.
At the bar there were only two or three drinks offers but they were tiny little cocktails and so most people just drank expensive pints.
Outside the Engine Shed there were two fairground rides which I believe were the meant to be the "amazing entertainment" we'd been promised. Whilst "goes" on the ride were free, each "go" lasted about two minutes.
There were a lot of other problems and I could go on but to basically summarize my opinion, I think the Student Union used this as an opportunity to make as much fast cash as possible and I think that's disgusting.
I appreciate there are some costs involved with running the event such as security, bar + technical staffing, insurance, electricity, bar stocking and such however I really don't believe what we paid justified what we got, especially considering other unis such as Hull paid less (£25) and had Feeder and Athlete play.
I'd really appreciate a refund.
Alex Bilbie replied on September 02, 2009 13:54 to the idea "Logging in to WiFi automatically by MAC address." in University of Lincoln:
What would be cool is if we could access location data as well based on the access point IP address.
E.g. xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx = library
This could then be used in University apps e.g.
What services are available in the building I'm in?
How to get to this room - e.g. I'm in the library, show me the quickest route to MTECH
