boxmonkey's reply to "What's the music format on Grooveshark?" was just promoted to the most useful! alexh3791 and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.
Hi there,
At this time we only support MP3s (this is mostly due to Adobe Flash limitations, I believe). The bitrate completely depends on what our users upload, but we try to pick the best file to play. Which one is best depends on a bunch of various factors including bit rate (preference is given to higher bitrates as long as they are not so high the file will take too long to buffer), sample rate (only certain sample rates are playable in Flash), number of "flags," etc.
I hope that helps. :)

alexh3791 started following the idea "Get the latest Airfoil Speakers for Linux" in Rogue Amoeba.
alexh3791 reported a problem in Rogue Amoeba on March 22, 2009 18:07:
Airfoil 2.6.5 on Windows incompatible with Airfoil Speakers 2.6.0 on Ubuntu 7.10Airport 2.6.5.0 for Windows does not interface with Airfoil Speakers for Linux 2.6.0 on Ubuntu 7.10.
Every time I try to connect to the Airfoil Speakers application on the Linux machine, it immediately crashes.
Is there an update in the works to fix this problem?
I have heard reports that the older versions of Airfoil for Windows work fine with the Linux application, so there must be a change in 2.6.5.0 that causes this issue.-
