He actually recently said that the implementation on twitter.com is still in the works: http://groups.google.com/group/twitte... – Thomas, on August 19, 2008 18:04

Dude, they JUST implemented this on the backend, I'm sure it will be on the site soon enough. You're angry that they haven't done it in just a few days? – Thomas, on August 19, 2008 12:55

You can already go on quotably.com and 'correct' which tweet a reply is in response to, but there's no firefox extension or anything yet which will overlay this information into twitter.
One technique I like is taking the tweet id (like, 888819463) and appending it after the @reply. If I wanted to respond to that certain tweet, I'd write @TedErnst (888819463) The message. Another method that might work is @TedErnst#888819463, I think that might work too. Since each tweet id is unique, it'd be cool if it would still append "in reply to Ted Ernst" if I did @#888819463 which would be a shortcut to say at tweetid 888819463. It still knows (on the twitter site) who did it, and since the xml file that is given in the API actually has an in reply to field then apps would know who it was to:
<in_reply_to_status_id>888819463</in_reply_to_status_id>
<in_reply_to_user_id>2681</in_reply_to_user_id>
This is a pretty cool idea, I think, but I doubt it will ever be implemented, except maybe in greasemonkey scripts. Then, of course, it would have to catch on...

Chris, this is strange! I was obviously not referring to the @reply link.
The link is now gone, and in fact, the text has changed. I am 100% sure the text read: Will you add me too? And the words "add me" were linked.
I am aware this is spam, but that makes this case not less interesting.
1. There was a link. No doubt.
2. The link is now gone. How could the user amend the tweet? If she would have deleted the tweet and created a new one, the URL would have changed.

Alexome asked a question in Twitter on June 19, 2008 12:40:
Add me link: Does Twitter allow html in web updates?According to Twitter FAQ, html is not allowed in web updates. How then did this user create an Add me link? See: http://twitter.com/PuppyL0ve/statuses...
Does Twitter auto-convert "Request to follow me" links to "Add me" links?

I customized my badge with a background image. See alexome.com. You can add the background-image property directly to the twitter_div selector, or to another div inside twitter_div.
